Title: The Kentuckian (1955)

There's little of western in this, the bulk of the plot is made up of Lancaster's failing attempts at civilization (well, that's a western theme, granted). But there's too much of romantic subplot to satisfy me. The kid playing Lancaster's son (or adopted son: i don't know if I got it right) gives the worst performance I ever saw by a teen actor. And Matthau playing a sort of villain in his screen debut: I don't know, but I always expect him to deliver a one-liner which will make me rofl. Still the movie has a couple of scenes which makes it worth seeing: the minstrel show on the steamboat and the run of Lancaster on the water. 6\10
