Title: Best Morricone cd?
Post by: Il Tramonto on June 09, 2004, 07:39:22 AM
What's up fellas, I just joined this forum. I was wondering what the best cd of Morricone's is, and where I could find it cheapest. Thanks

Extremely hard question.

I think his best CD, from the point of view of musical composition is "The Mission".

But, my favourite one is "Duck You Sucker". The track "Death Songs" haunts me every day of my life.

There is technical musical composition, and there's feeling. And I feel much more from both the GBU, the OUATIW, Duck you Sucker and OUATIA-soundtracks than the Mission. But of course, that's film related...

OUATIA always gets my vote, like most of his soundtracks though a few of the tracks are repeated and repeated again.
It's also worth thinking about an Ennio Morricone compilation. There are a few out there, the most recent is called Movie Masterpieces.
The Best Of.... has been around a few years now is also very good and reasonably priced.
Arena Concerto (Live In Verona) is also a good bet.
There is also a box set available which has around sixty-five tracks!!

I think OUTITW is my fav Morricone score.

If you are going to buy this one, be sure to pick-up the Italian RCA verson (C'era Una Volta Il West) that has 20 tracks.  Most CDs have less.  I picked my copy of it up at the Amazon zShops.
