Title: Undercurrent (1946)
Post by: cigar joe on October 27, 2011, 06:17:01 AM
Undercurrent (1946) Director Vincente Minnelli. With Katharine Hepburn, Robert Taylor, Robert Mitchum, Edmund Gwenn, Marjorie Main, Jayne Meadows, Clinton Sundberg. Terrible Noir of exactly the type I really don't like upper crust/high society on recycled a million time sets. Overly melodramatic story of newly married Hepburn, whose husband (Taylor) is bitterly estranged from his brother (Mitchum). My wife even thought the actors were miscast, avoid if you can 1/10

It's not very good, granted. But a "1" seems draconian.

Katharine Hepburn is always miscast, as a woman.

The only film I really like her in is "Bringing Up Baby", she's actually pretty cute in that one.

Ouch peeps, you must hate it. I've had this film for a while and finally watched it. I had put it off so long because it's an hour and 50 mins long and I wasn't sure if I could take so much Hepburn. I'm not a fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. Hepburn is clearly punching above her weight with both Taylor and Mitchum after her,  but somehow the movie worked for me. I thought Hepburn was not too annoying for once.

That must be saying something.  ^-^.
I watcher her in, I think she was playing Mary Queen of Scot's, but not sure if that is it's title. She was decent in that also.

I found it OK, although too long and too soapy. But its main fault is that it is simply not very noirish, especially visually. I neither like nor dislike  Hepburn or Taylor, but Mitchum was good as usual, though this was not one of his best films.

I'm a fan of this film.

10/10.

For one, Katharine Hepburn didn't overdo it.

The others were well cast, in my opinion.
