I highly recommend this powerful film to all DYS fans.
It is a sober tale of the IRA in Cork County during the years of 1920-22.
I kept 'flashing back' to DYS while watching it!
You'll see why.
check it out!

thanks

It's a pretty good flick, though riddled with cliches and the occasional plot contrivance. Very commendable in its moral ambiguity.

If you want cliche ridden watch a Peckinpah film.

Relevance please?

I don't see the film as being cliche ridden. Not any more so than most of the stuff out there. The Peckinpah comment was in response to you calling me a " maroon ?" some years ago when I expressed my thoughts on Mr Peckinpah. >:(

For a start there's the whole Cain and Abel plot of two brothers who end up on opposite sides of the conflict. That established you can pretty much guess where the story's going. But that's a minor flaw in what's otherwise a solid movie.
I'm sorry that something I said to you years ago was so offensive that you bring it up in a random thread today.

That plot line is not anything new, one of em working with the Tans etc, but it did happen.
I've not been active for some time and was reading some old posts and it shocked me that my post resulted in the literary lashing from such an erudite gunslinger like yourself. I guess it just shows your passion for his works. I do feel quite strongly about this film however.
Maroon ? Makes it even worse cos I think you must have meant moron ! :'(

That exchange escapes me, but I don't doubt it happened. I was obnoxious in my callow youth and there's plenty evidence of it about. My apologies.
-
Well I'll be.. You were 17 when the post was made !!! Thanks for the apology.
By the way who's wielding the Lewis guns and in what film ?
-
It's Jack Hawkins but I have no idea which movie.

I remember seeing this in cinema... it was pretty good apart from that one firing squad scene consisting zero blood. I mean, they didn't shy away from shoving torture earlier? Why the sudden ridiculous lack of blood?
