Title: Upload photos
Post by: Leonardo on March 22, 2016, 09:19:15 AM
Tried to upload a copy of Sergio's passport dated 1964. It's a normal JPEG file which I have resized down to 65 KB (it seems that  larger images are not allowed), selected it from my PC but for some reason the upload does not work. Is there anybody who can give me some hints on how to upload photos?? Thanks!

First you need a site which hosts images.

Photobucket used to be good but recently free accounts with them can be slow due to enforced advertisements.

There are many alternatives to Photobucket e.g.  Imgur and the following page lists the top 10 sites which host images free

Sometimes ISP's provide free web space to which images can be uploaded.

Once you have uploaded the photo to the image host, you need to obtain details of the link.

These will be something like:

http ://imgur.com/GS3h23I.jpg

or

[ url ]http://imgur.com/GS3h23I.jpg[ /url ]

or

[ img ]http://imgur.com/GS3h23I.jpg[ /img ]

PLEASE NOTE: I've inserted spaces in the above so the tags and link are visible rather than the hyperlink or photo.

Write the link down or copy it to notepad or the message you want to post.

Compose your post and include the link to the photo (do not include any spaces in the link).

If you want the photo to appear in the message as a  link  use the [ url ] [ /url ] tags (or highlight the link and press the Insert Hyperlink button)

If you want the photo to appear in the message as a  photo  use the [ img ] [ /img ] tags (or highlight the link and press the Insert Image button)

If the dimensions of the photo are large and you don't want to resize it, it may be preferable to use the link option rather than the photo itself.

Please PM me if the above doesn't make much sense.

I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art yesterday. I'd like to share some photos in the Art thread, but it's really annoying to use PhotoBucket post pics on this site.

I used to use ImageShack, then started using PhotoBucket. Thank God for that, cuz all my old ImageShack links suddenly became dead/expired after like two years or whatever. But even PhotoBucket is a pain in the neck. Pics have to be resized, one at a time, so that they don't stretch out the page here. To do it for one pic may be no huge deal; to do it for dozens of pics is very very annoying and tedious and I just don't have the time/interest in doing that anymore. PhotoBucket is a very annoying site to use anyway.

I have lotsa pics from the Met on iPhone and computer - including Leone-related Hopper and de Chirico and Degas paintings. Also some Monets that I am sure n_l would appreciate and some American art that I know for damn sure he wouldn't appreciate. But I need a more convenient way of uploadig them here than doing it one by one on PhotoBucket.

This is quite a good summary of the best free image hosting sites.

Although I've not tried many of the sites personally, it mentions that several of the sites are good for editing and resizing multiple images.

I usually resize and compress images prior to uploading using a graphics program on my computer and there's probably an app that would do something similar.

Not sure how useful it is but you can also specify the size of an image when you post the link.

e.g.   [ img width=640 height=266]http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w494/chris5522/slwb/1_zpsxwfiognl.jpg[ /img]

Spaces included in the above so that the link shows instead of the image.
