Title: Shakedown (1950)
Post by: titoli on September 16, 2016, 08:19:56 AM
Compared to Duff here, Douglas in Ace in the Hole looks like a choirboy. But the problem is that Duff is not only "unscrupulous" but a real delinquent, more than the official delinquents he gets in touch with and blackmails. That makes the movie lose its initial point of interest (a ruthless journalist) and what is left is a fast-paced story. The copy everybody has seen doesn't help to make this z-production worth more than 7/10.

Agree, I like it quite a bit also. Duff, DonLeavy and Tierney are all great in this. Needs a restoration. 7/10
