The hysteria seems way worse than the virus !
6 people in New York state are infected- 5 of them live in DJ's own Westchester County. And others there are under quarantine. There likely will be more cases there announced shortly.
-
They announced today that 5 more people were infected in Westchester. Total of 10 now.
And guess what ... I was just at a conference with 18,000 people in Washington a few days ago. And now they sent everyone an email that a few of the people at the conference may have had some connection with one of the infected people in Westchester.
Nobody at the conference has coronavirus (yet). But those people who had connection with that Westchester guy are in quarantine now. And if it turns out that some of them have the virus, who knows if they won't quarantine all 18,000 of us.
I hope they make us quarantine. 14 straight days of ditching work, watching movies, and ordering Uber Eats. I'm looking forward to it.
They say now that 2 people at the conference tested positive for the virus, but as of now, we should just go about our business normally, unless we feel symptoms
-
The virus is starting to take hold here in the UK. About 270 cases last time I heard. And 3 deaths. I'm not going to take the virus alert lightly and keep away from crowds. And wash my hands thoroughly after shopping.
-
a quarter of the population of Italy is in quarantine.
Israel is being the most proactive/careful: They just announced that anyone arriving from any other country to Israel will have to go into quarantine
-
In France it seems like everybody is getting ready for an Italy-like situation. Things have been speeding up quite a bit in the last couple of days.
-
Italy has enacted severe travel restrictions on the entire country, not only the northern regions where there?s an outbreak.
Those northern areas are in quarantine (25% of population) but the other areas have severe restrictions also.

No big deal.

As a way to clean up the academy, this is gonna be much more efficient than the feminist outrage we got at the ceremony.

In the last 24 hours, the shit really hit the fan in the USA.
Here in New York state, crowds over 500 people have been banned. No more concerts or ballgames. Museums and opera halls, etc., all closed. St. Patricks Day Parade is canceled.
The National Basketball Association last night suspended its season after a player caught the virus (a teammate subsequently caught it.) The National Hockey League today suspended its season. Major League Baseball, set to begin its season at the end of this month, announced a postponement of at least two weeks. Major League Soccer and college basketball playoffs are also affected.
Back here in NY, people are freaking out about a potential mass quarantine/lockdown like Italy, and buying essential items out of stores. Things like water, soap, hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies, and toilet paper are hard to find in stores.
The NYC health commissioner said this may last until September.
Here is an article about how Hollywood and the wider entertainment industry are affected, and new movies are being delayed.
https://apnews.com/31817b854e28b48fe64844478a3f1889
Without sports to watch, I?ll be watching movies even more now. Yeah, I bet this pandemic is good for companies like Netflix. And Uber Eats. People will be staying home, watching movies and ordering food.
-
Don't worry, your red-headed bloke is in control of this Democratic hoax. 8)
Actually the shit had hit the fan over there already a week ago, at least in some states. I mean that some items were sold out f.e. in the state of Washington (so I'm told by a friend in Seattle). Did anybody in the media made it known? Apparently not.

"Essential" is understood subjectively. Last night I visited the Port Chester Whole Foods (an up-market grocery store) and there was quite a lot of water available--but things like meat, loaves of artisan bread, and bananas were sold out.

Yes, of course we knew about Washington state. But it really expanded in that 24 hour period, with all the sports leagues canceling

Do you live near Port Chester? Or in Port Chester? I was there last year for a concert... we could have been best friends.

I live between Port Chester and White Plains. I take turns visiting each for my shopping.

I Noticed that also, at his speech announcing the ban on European flights, he sounded like he had some breathing issue

France is now shut down. Italy, here we come!
-
This american guy living in Italy comments (in italian) the last exhibition of Red Schmuck about the pandemy. It is funny how Red contradicts by his action whatever he says (he says nothing, actually) but look at how all of the measures against contagion are indifferently ignored both by audience and staff (funniest moment when the only intelligent guy not touching the micro, keeping his hands behind him, is forced by Red to shake hands with him):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWmj1oRnHLI
-
It's funny that his (many) fans still adore him. Then again, not only those certain Americans are simple minded,
after the war we too heard so many over here saying "Hitler wasn't all bad!" (or Mussolini), 'even spreading again.
No matter what happened and will happen... Love, compassion etc. is out of fashion (again) these times...
(Unless it's your own son - or dog - of course...)
-

-
But, to be fair with Red, what about the major euro countries? Is their governments behaviour any different from Schmuck's? In France they close bars and restaurants but they hold elections today: can you be more moronic? In the UK the PM says they are gonna develop immunity against the virus by letting it go full speed ahead (and kill some hundred of thousands of people in the process): a pity italian government didn't have the same idea: time and money would have been saved. In Germany, it seems that they are following the same route. Apparently what was happening in Italy was ignored by all these statesmen: could they have been right and italians wrong?
-
About the elections in France: word is ALL THE OTHER POLITICAL PARTIES put pressure on the government to not stop the elections. Because they?re all expected to have good results. Anyway, it will surely cost us several thousands of deaths.
Another rumor: we should be fully confined (at least in some areas, like Paris) after Tuesday night.
Most criticisms are about the lack of transparency by our government that takes mesures without letting anyone guess when the next step will come.
-
New York City is shutting down more and more.
NYC public schools will be closed until at least April 20. (Public schools in Long Island and Westchester County are also closing.) Private schools are not forced to close; each school is making its own decision.
NYC has banned seating in restaurants; only takout/delivery allowed. And all theaters, movie theaters, concert venues and nightclubs are closed.
This follows the CDC (that's the federal government's health agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) issuing updated guidance Sunday, recommending that gatherings of 50 people or more be banned for the next eight weeks across the country. That is only a recommendation; up to each state/city to implement as they see fit. New York (City and State) are taking serious steps, as it has been one of the more hard-hit places in the U.S.
So now all there is left to do is order Uber Eats and watch movies at home.
-
I Noticed that also, at his speech announcing the ban on European flights, he sounded like he had some breathing issue
He also shook hands with a Brazilian official who subsequently tested positive. But Trump insisted doesn?t need a test
Trump finally got tested on Saturday. He's negative.
People are hoarding groceries out of fear of quarantine/lockdown. Here is Trump's comments on that:
"You don't have to buy so much," he said. "Relax. We're doing great. It all will pass."
-
"You don't have to buy so much," he said. "Relax. We're doing great. It all will pass."
Yeah, even he will pass. This year or will you have to wait another 4 years?
-
We went out for dinner last night (Sunday, Phoenix AZ); only like 4 tables of folks there. Businesses like this will be hurting, and same for their employees.

Won't you please stop aping your leader and try to make use of that thing above your neck? That video was posted on February 4. Which means it was shot even earlier. I don't care what happens to idiots but the problem is they are dangerous for others, especially if they lead a nation. This is no joke and should be clear to everybody by now.

titoli, thanks for your suggestions. You are as caring as ever. But I think there is even more you can do. Why not really help us all out and contract the coronavirus yourself? Do it as quickly as possible. That way everyone will know what to expect when we get it. You can issue daily reports on your condition in this thread. We are all going to get it. If not in this wave, then in one of the subsequent waves that follow (just look at what happened in 1918). But if you blaze a pioneering path for us, we will take comfort from you experience. Your advice will be based on first-hand reports. We will benefit, as we always do, from your expert knowledge.

It's who wrote the above line that should follow your brilliant suggestions. Don't try to turn tables. As usual. The first two sentences could have passed as a joke. The final one shows what you are.

I just watched a German TV team visiting the epicenter in the Lombardei. It was shocking, heartbreaking, devastating to see the doctors etc. desparately trying to save lives and being discouraged and almost crying, because people are dying every hour without a way of helping them...
I have lots of friends in the UK and the US... what a terrible time to have the stupidest leaders worldwide...

Unfortunately this doesn't mirror what is really like in Italy at the moment.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_cAE9GBrX8
There are still lots of people who have not got yet into the stay at home rule. Even in Lombardy there are people who get out for a walk in pairs, go shopping wearing mask and gloves thinking that makes things safe and do not comprehend that they should go shopping every ten days. But most of all the idiocy is the people who go jogging. People who always took the car even to go for a leak, now discover themselves as everyday runners since that will prevent the police from fine them. And even in Lombardy metro and bus are still operating. This is going to last and get worse.

I think we should start an SLWB contest - who can watch the most movies during quarantine. And no, porn doesn?t count. Question is what should the prize be? A free case of toilet paper?

Download the image on your computer, then go on Google, make a search (for anything), then click "images". Then, you can drag and drop the image you downloaded on the search box. Call your wife, and enjoy. At some point you may want to take off your gloves.

I'll do this if a couple others join. I've been spending too much time watching 1996 WCW and wasting time following NFL free agency.
We could also do some sort of community movie watch thing if that draws any interest.

I?ll probably do,low you guys once I?m done with all the postproduction work I have. The isolation in France is supposed to last 2 weeks, but it?s pretty clear it will be at least 5.
Mr Titoli, what are they saying in Italy? I heard the virus is just beginning to slow down. How long do you think you?ll stay isolated?
-
I'm out early in the morning shopping. Trying to get 12 weeks supply of food in the house. I think it's impossible to do that. But here in the UK we are being warned to get ready for a 12 week self isolation period.
I'm wondering what to look at during those 12 weeks. Perhaps 'Rear Window' is the best isolation period movie to watch. I can watch James Stewart's neighbours. I can't see mine because no overlooking where I am. I wish I had an Italian balcony.

We went out for dinner last night (Sunday, Phoenix AZ); only like 4 tables of folks there. Businesses like this will be hurting, and same for their employees.
Some restaurants over here in the UK are about to launch into a home delivery service. They will keep their restaurants open possibly at reduced space for their usual customers. The idea is they want to keep their food suppliers and staff in work. With so many people spending more time at home they will probably do well with their home deliveries.
-
Quite a few states here (including California and most of Arizona) have banned dine-in eating, just take out and delivery.
Our closest Chinese restaurant (where we'd only done take-out) is temporarily closed. One place where we'd frequent about every two weeks to eat and play trivia (no spaghetti western questions yet, dang it) apparently just got a complete make-over with new menu, new restaurant name by a cable TV show called "Bar Rescue" just as this directive came out; I figure they've got almost zero chance of surviving.
-
For the first time today less new cases (3957) and less deaths (651). Was yesterday (4821-793) the peak? We'll see tomorrow. But there are still morons who try to travel from their working places in the North to their homes in the South. Now, I don't think Italy has a percentage of morons higher than elsewhere. So the other world leaders should know what it is to be expected in their own countries. Instead I've seen BoJo giving "advices" to his countrymen: he's still not giving orders.

Now the problem is how long it will take to get near 0 new infections. That depends on the number of tests being made and how well containment measures are respected by citizens. Also, not having a public NHS like in Europe might make a difference.

There is also the issue of whether there are new strains of the virus that people may not be immune to.
With strict containment that shouldn't make a difference with infections, only in the search of a vaccine. The problem is that containment can't be kept strict for a long time. The economy cannot be bound for long and people too. But if you adhere to rules like wearing mask and gloves and keep social distancing, once that the numbers are low, you can start (slowly) again until a vaccine is discovered. Still I don't know if, in the USA where there's no NHS, those measures can be as effective as in Europe. What about people who can't afford test and care?
-
Lowest percentage of new cases since the start of the pandemic: 6,2% on a record number of 60.000 tests performed. Still a high number of deaths. The problem (or not) is that they are mostly concentrated in the North-West, especially in the Milan area; and up there it doesn't seem to be a slack-down of the number of new infections (and on the people going round). I presume that by the beginning of new month, at least in the rest of the country, the lockdown might end, though the safety measures will be kept until a vaccine will be found. Which means that an effective lockdown must last for at least a couple of months. Let's see.
-

This was a concern, that poor people would not get tested or proper care because they couldn?t afford it, then they would spread the virus to other people.
So, testing and care are generally free now; and Insurance companies are not charging anything out of pocket https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/03/19/health/coronavirus-tests-bills.amp.html

It seems that you read the subheading but did not read the actual article. People may face bills If they go out of their healthcare network (meaning, a doctor who does not take their insurance) or undergo unrelated tests. But typically, you go to your doctor or a hospital that takes your insurance - and whatever insurance you have, there are plenty of places that take it - and all coronavirus testing is free.

From the article:
What if I don?t have insurance?
You should be able to get covered. If you lose your job, you may qualify for Medicaid or be able to sign up for a health plan under the Affordable Care Act.
A growing number of states are also creating a special enrollment period for residents who want to sign up, and there is even some talk of the federal government making a similar decision for the marketplaces they operate. There?s also talk of using the Medicaid program much more broadly to cover the uninsured.

Titoli is trying to say that

From the article:
What if I don?t have insurance?
You should be able to get covered. If you lose your job, you may qualify for Medicaid or be able to sign up for a health plan under the Affordable Care Act.
A growing number of states are also creating a special enrollment period for residents who want to sign up, and there is even some talk of the federal government making a similar decision for the marketplaces they operate. There?s also talk of using the Medicaid program much more broadly to cover the uninsured.
Good. Let's hope it works.
Today, for the very first time since the lockdown, a significant drop in the numbers in Italy. Only deaths are more or less constant (575) but probably that is to be expected as Italy has got the second or third older population in the world and in Lombardy they didn't act wisely at the start (a tenth of total world deaths are localized there).
A few minutes ago the Director of the NHC said that the epidemic can be considered halted in the centre and south of the nation.

Sounds like industry suicide. Fewer seats filled means fewer concession sales, the point where the real money is made. Meanwhile, overhead, in the form of increased security workers, sky-rockets.
Prices have to go up. The prospect of home viewing becomes even more attractive.

I've gone plenty at 27! I live 20 minutes from a decent one in Rhode Island. They just re-opened but are currently only screening the stuff that was in theaters before it last closed. I'm hoping that before movies get released again, they'll start showing some classics.

I have lived in NYC all my life and I'm not even aware of any drive-ins. But some are opening now

Looks like face masks compulsory in our shops soon. I'm glad to be out of my 15 week isolation period without the Internet into the bargain. So now catching up with the movie forums.
