I likely will not purchase. Somehow in the past I obtained a 50-track version, and combined with my GDM version and a 39-track version, compiled my own "ultimate" GBU version for myself. Nowadays I doubt I would remember how I actually did that.

It was never " missing"- I've owned it for years.
Morricone actually cares about how his music is presented on albums.
He curated a fantastic fifty nine minute for GDM combining the stereo version and mono film tracks into a pleasurable whole.
The new version decoupled the two into the complete score in mono and the ORIGINAL stereo sound track album.
So, you do get several minutes of previously unreleased score. Much of it is in short cues that don't make for a great listen. .Others merely repeat thematic material.
The complete score is chopped up into forty three cues ( the MGM is thirty.nine)
There also seem to be some alternate versions of existing pieces.
I have the GDM, EMI and MGM promo with complete score.
I'm happy.

From the liner notes (which are great by the way and include some fun quotes from Eastwood):
Disc 1 and 2 were restored from the monaural original recording session.
Also premiering on Disc 2 is a longer album version of "La storia di un soldato" featuring three additional verses, remixed from the recently discovered original International Recording Studios 1/2" three-track tape.
Following an extensive search, Disc 3 showcases Morricone's best-selling original soundtrack assembly remastered from the first generation 1/4" master tape. This has allowed us to restore two seconds to the opening of 'll deserto" and, crucially, restore eight seconds to the start of "Marcetta senza speranza"
rather than utilizing the truncated fade-in present on other 1/4" tapes and heard on North American CD releases.
It is worth noting that Morricone's soundtrack assembly plays in film sequence, although it features some different performances. For instance, the second half of "il Triello" is the original version; Morricone rescored the scene after his album had been finalized.

They used a photo from FAFDM in the booklet yes. It's from the scene that was re filmed at a different location so it's as seen in the film and not the first go at it.

I'm very happy with this purchase. I really enjoyed listening to the remastered soundtrack and the various unused musical cues/alternate versions that weren't available before.

The Quartet extended mono version of " Ballad of a Soldier, merely repeats the three stanzas.
They are not " new verses" as claimed in.the notes.
However, the extended STEREO version does indeed add verses.
This is the highlight of the alternate versions!

Just finished listening to the whole thing, sound quality is fantastic, even in mono. You can tell they went back to the master tapes and captured everything in high resolution to start. My favorite part is the alternate versions of familiar pieces, and the set is definitely aimed at the fan who wants to hear everything ever recorded or mixed for the film (which is me). For the casual fan, there is a lot of redundancy for sure.

the set is definitely aimed at the fan who wants to hear everything ever recorded or mixed for the film (which is me). For the casual fan, there is a lot of redundancy for sure.

I took my time ordering this, but my copy finally arrived. I have the GDM version but, to my ears, this is a much better sounding collection. I don't know what "restored from the monaural original recording session" entails, but it seems like it was a very good thing to do.
The booklet is certainly worth having as well. Eastwood's comments seem to be from 2020.

I don't even have a CD player anymore! But my old laptop does. I can put it in my old laptop and then upload the files to my iTunes account or email them to my new laptop, from which I can put them on my iTunes account.
So I guess I can try ordering this when it is back in stock.

If you are converting the tracks into MP3 files I'm not sure it's worth it. But maybe someone else who understands technical matters better than I can speak to this. MP3 is what they call a lossy format, right? You're not going to get all the information that's there on the original track. Though whether your ear can detect the difference is another matter.

I don't even have a CD player anymore!
One can use a DVD player to play CDs, I do it all the time: route through a small bookshelf stereo (something like this) where the 5-CD changer no longer works, and turn to auxiliary input. I do this at both my homes after the original 5-CD changers gave out or were too temperamental; one of these stereos was my chosen "award" for 30 years of service at my employer, one I bought at Target.

My "real" stereo set-up is a Sanyo system with high-end cassette deck I purchased in 1977, complete with turntable, all still works. I eventually bought a single CD player for $38 at local Montgomery Wards, even then I didn't want or need "multiple" discs. It's in the bedroom, and I use that CD player to play music when Mrs. Cusser and I take a bath (too much information?) or record cassettes for use in 3 of my vehicles, the old VWs make enough noise that the quality of cassettes is fine.
My cassette deck. Actually, I have two of these; the second I bought for 99 cents on Ebay when myself or a stereo shop could not figure out why I sometimes got drop-outs on the right channel when recording onto cassette. While the Ebay unit was en route, I tried switching cables, etc., no difference, but stumbled upon that the push button switch to change source from "Line" to "Mic" was the culprit, had NEVER been pushed in for 35 years, must've had a speck of dust in it, now fixed just by pushing it in twice !!!! Oh, the Ebay unit needed a new drive belt, that's all; shipping then was about $10 for the 99 cent unit. Back in those days these contained a lot of metal, big and firm units. When mine was on the fritz, I looked at the (very) few cassette decks at Best Buy, they were so light and flimsy that just pressing down on the "play" switch would push the unit a couple of inches away....

Yesterday I listened to the "Marco Polo" version soundtrack of "Adventures of Robin Hood" by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. I actually prefer the Utah Symphony version from a few decades ago, co-ordinated by Korngold's son.

I have a closet full of decks that no.longer work.
Usually, the record function dies and the play survives so I keep them as backups

Yep, those two Sanyo RD-5350 both work still. I did trash a lower-quality 2-cassette unit I bought in the mid-1980s, used for copying cassettes. Pretty sure that one just needed new belts, but I was unable to figure out how to access those, and definitely not worth having a shop replace those belts and lube it.
I use those cassette decks for occasional playback in the home, and for recording cassettes from CDs for the stereos in my two old VWs. I have yet to digitalize my old records (including old Morricone soundtracks) and a about a dozen cassettes; I'm not exactly sure how I would do that, I primarily use a laptop with Windows 7, and the input jack is not stereo. I may need to get a special USB or just get a turntable that makes CDs directly or digitalizes directly.
