Title: nice piece on Frayling
Post by: drinkanddestroy on May 30, 2021, 01:02:31 PM
I just discovered this 2013 interview/article on Frayling

"Like many popular artists, Leone also wanted to be regarded as a serious artist, and passionately craved the respect of intellectuals. Enter the white knight. In the English-speaking world at least, no one has done more than Christopher Frayling to make Sergio Leone a name to drop in cinephile circles."

Among the interesting revelations: Frayling's manuscript for STDWD was double as long as what was publishd. And he says "I think that by the end of this year I'm finally going to be Leoned out ... unless some publisher is willing to do the 'Director's Cut' of the biography." (Thankfully, Frayling was not "Leoned out" - he did subsequently publish the OUATITW book  :))
