Title: The Italian Section of Montana
Post by: cigar joe on November 25, 2004, 04:09:28 PM
The Bitteroot Valley of Montana was the ancestral home of the Flathead/Salish tribe of Native Americans. Sometime between 1812 & 1820 a party of French trappers and Iroquios visited the Flathead/Salish, association with the Iroquois who were educated in a mission near Montreal convinced the Flathed/Salish that it would be a good idea to have some blackrobes among them.  In 1831 a party of natives traveled to St. Louis to ask just that. A number of the Jeuits who came to the Bitteroot Valley were Italians. And this part of Montana still has some Italian place names. A town called Florence a Lake Como and north of Missoula The towns of Ravalli and St. Ignace.

Here is a pictue of Lake Como with Trapper Peak in the bg. Also Cigar Joe revealed in a leather hat & smoking an "angel eyes" tobacco pipe, lol.
