I really like 80s generation movies like Back to the Future and Gremlins.

Always fun, even after couple of 10 times: Mrs Doubtfire

Others?  I dunno, I have a problem seeing films too many times.  Even when I watch a Leone movie now, it doesn't affect me like it used to... (only when it's on the big screen)  It's just me.  Comedies are the only type I can see ...err ... 15 times.

I like to space out enough time between each viewing of most all the movies I really like. I've seen Dirty Harry, Rocky, and Psycho a bunch of times over the years. There's too many others to list them all.

But I think The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one that I could watch over and over again. There's some other horror movies as well like Night of the Living Dead and Halloween that I like to watch from time to time.

"Doctor Strangelove, or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb"

This one never fails to crack me up. Its list of memorable characters is amazing.

Jack D. Ripper "Precious bodily fluids"
General Buck Torgison (George C. Scott)"a mine gap"
President Muffley (Peter Sellers) "you can't fight in here, it's a war room"!
Dr. Strangelove (Peter Sellers) "megadeaths"

It's a hoot from the sexual imagry of  the B52 refueling sequence at the beginning to the wierd beauty of the doomsday machine mushroom clouds at the end.

Another favorite is Lina Wertmullers Seven Beauties, the beginning sequence with WWII stock footage is hypnotizing.

I'm with Harmonica on this one.
For some strange reason it has to be Mad Max 2, even though OUATIA and OUATITW are my all time faves. Maybe it's because it was the first X cert I ever saw, or maybe because it's fun and easy to watch or maybe it's the leather - nah! only joking! Dunno, it's just fantasic!!

Any John Carpenter Flick prior to and including Big Trouble in Little China Town

I love Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, The Fog, Escape From New York, The Thing....My favorite John Carpenter movie is Assault on Precinct 13.  Napolan Wilson rocks.  Pre-cursor to Snake Pliskin....  Carpenter is a hugh Western fan and the whole movie is based upon Rio Bravo...  It's awesome...

All of Leone of course - can you ever surf channels without stopping when he's on?

Goodfellas - nuff said

Scarface - "Look at Chu Now!"

Last of the Mohicans - actually, anything by Michael Mann.  "Thief" with James Caan is awesome too.

"Escape from New York" (which has the greatest scene every filmed where Donald Pleasance as the President of the United States is spraying the Duke of New York with the machine gun and shouting "Who's A #1 !" - I betcha GW loves that one too)

Anything by Stanley Kubrick, "Paths of Glory" is my favorite, "Barry Lyndon" close second.

The early Bond era, especially "From Russia With Love"

"Kingpin" - totally insane, "'It has 3 holes and you stick your fingers in it' - 'Hey, don't talk about my girlfriend like that!'"

Do the Three Stooges shorts count as movies?

Oh Oh Oh, and a totally guilty pleasure, "The Boys From Brazil" - just to hear Gregory Peck say "Shot up you uckly bitch!"

Oh, and the original "Day of the Jackal" and "The Outlaw Josie Wales"

The films Jon mentioned, plus Indiana Jones, plus The Thin Red Line, plus everything by David Lynch. Thin Red Line, plus David Lynch movies, are to me like Once Upon A Time In America. Thousands of ways to interpret them, and every time I see them, it`s a completely new experience. Pure genius.

Post by: Blueberry on December 10, 2003, 06:27:36 AM
I can watch many films over and over. These are some of them - in no specific order, and apart from Leones pieces:

Thin Red Line: I agree, pure poetry, gets me every time.
Badlands (Malick again)
Apocalypse Now (Redux)
Halloween, The Fog
Barton Fink / Miller's Crossing / Blood Simple / The Man who wasn't There / Fargo - Movie Magic performed by Coen Bros, who should stay away from comedy, IMO. The subtle scenes in these rather serious films are much more fun to watch.

Goodfellas, Mean Streets, Casino
Godfather I and II
Cube
French Connection I and II
DAS BOOT (uncut version)
DELICATESSEN (JEUNET and CARO)
Blade Runner (directors cut)
ALIEN I
And again: Lynch-films - and Twin Peaks
The Wall

Lars Von Trier films (sorry, he's just an incredible director): Europa, The Element of Crime, Breaking the Waves, The Idiots, Dogville - and the tv-series Kingdom

Polanski's China Town
Usual Suspects
The Parallax View (there's just something about slow political thrillers from the 70's)
Cool Hand Luke - "No one can eat 50 eggs!!"

Most Kubrick movies - yes, Dr. Strangelove is marvellous, just saw it some months ago in a cinema - WOW, as if it was just two years old.
Shawshank Redemption (sorry.. just gets me, the pure unfairness of it all, and the excellent actors - one of very few good S. King adaptations).
Smoke
Memento
Insomnia - this is a very good director coming up, don't remember his name.
Short Cuts (dig TOM WAITS, one of the gods next to Sergio)
Magnolia
Donnie Darko
Ice Storm (I like the descriptions of surburbia in these films)
Jim Jarmusch- films !!!!!!
Aki Kaurismäki: The man Without a Past - finnish masterpiece - opening line:
M: Thank you.
Mrs. Nieminen: So you can talk.
M: Sure. I just haven't had anything to say before.
Mrs. Nieminen: What do you do?
M: I don't know.
Mrs. Nieminen: You don't know?
M: My head's damaged somehow. I don't even remember who I am.
Mrs. Nieminen: My, that's bad. Care for a cup of coffee?

Jules and Jim (Truffaut)
Brazil and 12 Monkeys
Atarnajuat - The Fast Runner - the first film made purely by and starring Inuit people. Magnificent.

A new one I'd like to see more times is Mystic River - it's like a greek tragedy, man...
That's what I can think of now, hope I didn't wear you out

"Baise moi" (F....k me) is an amazing film which made a big scandal in France . Why ?

-Many very shocking sex and violence scenes
-Directed by a woman  Virginie Despentes
 -Killers are two girls
-Virginie has had the good idea to employ pornographic actresses to play , and they play very well.
 - So sex scenes are reals ...

The censorship was with a difficult choice: put an X rate and this movie disappeared in the deepness of porno network... but its not a X film it's a real opus.
Or cut the scenes... and destroy the whole film   .
So French Justice was obliged to re-invent an old label"Forbidden to less than 18 years old people"

Music background is very good (Rock and jazz), critics from
Time Magazine and L.A Magazine pretty good.

Virginie invents a new category "the radical/porno/intellectual shocking movie"

Most James Bond films, "The Untouchables", "The X-Files Movie", "MST3K: The Movie", "Terminator II", "The Mummy" (1999 version, just a fun movie IMO), "Aliens", "Jurassic Park", "Jurassic Park III" . . . if I think of any more I'll add them.

There are so many I'd like to see over and over again, but I'd need more money to buy DVDs and more time to sitndown and watch them.

Anyway, the movies that I've seen repeatedly during the past month include:

Bridge on the River Kwai
Lawrence of Arabia
Once upon a time in the west

I can only sit down and watch a leone movie maybe once a year.

THE WIND  (1927), a VICTOR SJOSTROM production. Does it for me every time.
"So penetrating is the atmosphere that one can almost feel the wind itself and taste the endless dust." -Georges Sadoul
