Title: THE BEST SERGIO LEONE FILM...
Post by: Jupa on November 13, 2002, 05:56:13 AM
I think the best place for this question is the General Discussion.I'm anxious to know everyone's opinion on this matter.

Too bad I coudn't choose 2 options. The both Once upon A times Are my favorites of all time. I chose for America because I think Sergio put more effort on it.
Also I think they both have the best soundtrack there is.

For me it's got to be The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Great film, great soundtrack, great story - plus even more importantly.... it's got Tuco!

For me it is also GBU, it is a wonderful adventure of three magnificent rouges. Tuco is great and always entertaining. The true test is watching these films in a theater with an audience and GBU had the most satisfying audiance responce.

GBU did it for me, it got my attention and that was that!
Humour, soundtrack,storyline,Tuco,it had the lot.

as i have already explained elsewhere, for a few dollars more is the best of them all, for me.  it converted me to leone and eastwood, and also it seems to the moment when all three genius'  clint, sergio and ennio came together as one to make a superb movie with a damn cool lead man and best of all a score that could change a world.

it maybe a biased view as it was the converter but his movie really does it for me.  who wouldn't want to be manco????

I love all of Leone films. If I have to pick one, OUTIW is it. Story, dialogue, music, acting, editing, camera work---from all angles, this is an absolute art work of cinema.

i voted and i have to say, GBU is the masterpiece. the structure, character development (particularly tuco), pacing, mise en scene, music and plot are the best i've seen. this is an exceptional movie!

Fistful of dynamite.  Morriconne's best score too.

When I first saw TGTBATU as a young boy, I remember thinking that no other film could ever be as good as this.

However, when OUATITW came out a couple of years later, it dethroned TGTBATU. I love them both but if I absolutely had to choose, it would be OUATITW.

These two would be followed by FAFDM, FOD, My Name Is Nobody and Duck You Sucker/Fistful of Dynamite.

Though I know I may sound exaggerate to other people, when I talk about For a Few Dollars More, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West and Duck You Sucker, I called them masterpieces... any of them... and about A Fistful of Dollars... I say it is a good film... but Once Upon a Time in America, the 218 uncut version, the overnothing version  ;), I call it THE MASTERPIECE, not only Leone's, but of all times... by now. So guess which film I voted for...
Oh maybe I'm really exaggerate, but I don't mind. Never been this solemn...  ;D
bye and bye

I would say Once Upon a Time in America,he spent 10 years planning this film,it was his dream and he obviously put his heart and soul into it.Fistful of Dynamit e I probably enjoy more, but OUATIA ,I think,is his artistic masterpiece.

I read that he was already planning the film after he made The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

It's interesting to notice that no one regards A Fistful of Dollars as Leone's number one film.

OUATIA but hard to pick between OUATIA and OUATIW. In terms of great artistic brilliance these two are head and shoulders above Leone's others. In purely entertainment terms GBU is the best and you have to be patient when watching the once upon a times. But aesthetically, stylistically, musically and emotionally Once Upon a Time in America gets my vote as a hugely affecting work of art that manages to steer away from the hollywood melodramatics of that Leone taboo, the godfather. In my mind OUATIA is better. A wonderful 227 minutes of cinema. And the music? Leone has such a debt to Morricone. :o

For A Few Dollars More

Its very close to me. The first Leone movie i ever watched.
Its the the one in the middle of the trilogy. Has the best of both worlds.
Rawness of Fistful, like other Spaghetti Westerns in general
& More interesting camera techiques which made the man who he is, from Good Bad and the Ugly & post.

He made better movies.. but its my baby  ;)

Still no votes for FOD!  :o

OUATITW is leading the race at the moment, but GBU and OUATIA are not far behind.

OUATIA has the greatest story, the feelings in it are the most complex, as the narrative structure...

Morricone score is as great as OUATITW, GBU or FOD, even if it is different...
The camera work is as good as OUATITW.
Coburn is one of the greatest actors who ever worked with Leone... i can be moved by a simple smile from that guy...

OUATITW!
Leone really shows of his skills with this tour-de-fource of how to use the "scope".
And of the music, acting, cinematography and everything else is superb in this film.
GBU and OUATIA is very close, though...

Hey guys and gals, I'm new to the board after someone recommended this site for Leone fans.

Huge fan of all the movies that Leone made, but OUATITW is my fave.   Perfect casting, great score from Morricone, some of the best dialogue ever, and that final flashback is still haunting no matter how many times I see it.

I look forward to posting here and getting to know everybody.

OUATITW is a bit too long but I like it very much, too. It was the first Leone film I saw on the big screen.

Hi everybody! My first post here. I'm delighted and amazed to find people who believe, like me, that FAFDM is Leone's best. I think OUATITW is more pretentious and dilatated, though it contains memorable scenes. DYS, I'm tempted to prefer it to the former, but it is not as tight as FAFDM and politics in movies of this kind are better left off. So it's between GBU and FAFDM. The former has the best Morricone's tune, the best performance in a Leone's movie (and, who knows, maybe in any western movie at all) more production values. but it also has slow-moving and preposterous scenes (the bridge), the shoot-out in the dead city, half-serious, half not; the too melodramatic beating scene. FAFDM (which has been my favourite since I saw it as a kid in the theatres at least, if I remember well, 3 times) has none of these flaws: the plot is tighter, fast-moving, never boring. It has inconsistencies, but one doesn't notice them because of the rhythm.
OUATIA: one of the dullest movies I ever saw.

FAFDM is really good. I first didn't like it so much because it suffers a bit from a classical movie problem. Both the good and the bad have good chances to decide the battle early but for no explicable reasons don't do so. Now after many seeings I'm more forgiving. I really like Volonté. But GBU is better  ;)

Once Upon A Time In The West is not only Leone's best film (by a small margin) but I feel it is the best film ever made.

I saw Dollars Trilogy and became mad for TGTBTU but after watching FOD in my home theatre with full soundtracks, i became crazy on FOD. The Title tracks which depicts a james bond movie title visuals is such a thing i never saw in any other movies also the heroic entrance of clint at final duel :) watching again and again:) :) :) :) O0 O0 So FOD gets my vote.
