Title: GBU book update . . .
Post by: Hanley on February 14, 2006, 07:45:24 AM
I have updated my website advertising the GBU book:
www.gbu-book.net
I am making quiries with a printing company in north Italy, so things are slowly coming along. It would be nice to find a sponsor(s) in the near future - will see. Any suggestions for the book are most welcome.

Thanks for keeping us updated, as for suggestions, it looks like the book is going to have everything we could ask for! I just really hope that the book becomes a reality, looking forward to it like you wouldn't believe!

Hanley, update us if you hear anything new about your GBU book.  I think just about everyone here would be interested in a copy.  Keep up the good work and good luck, amigo!

Sorry, I have not responded earlier . . . I have written a "large" summary of the original script. There are so many small as well as major differences between the script and the film, that I decided to present just about the whole thing!
I will be going to Rome for a few days at the end of this month. By coincidence, there is a photographic Sergio Leone exhibition going on from May 18 to June 3, which I will attend. Also, I plan to meet Giancarlo Santi (assistant director) there, and I will try to make comparison photos of the "Tuco in the Grotto" scene (just for completion, although the whereabouts of the cut GBU night scene remains unsolved). Finally, I will go to Salas de los Infantes in mid-July since there is a small exhibition/reunion going on to celebrate the GBU's 40th anniversary. In the meantime, I will edit the text/interviews, plan the layout and consult a local publisher for help with setting up Adobe PageMaker. I will do most of the hard work myself but then I will (need to) go to the experts to get the book ready for print etc.

I think he must mean one of the scenes now in the restored version where Tuco with Blondie on the carriage are directed to the San Antonio mission.

Yes, I meant the San Antonio scene which was cut from the original English version. The scene, of course, is now incorporated into the recently released GBU DVD.

When will this book be done? Is it nearing completion?

I am in Rome now! I just went to the Sergio Leone photo exhibition - nothing really new. For example, the photos which Prof. Frayling used in his books were there, and perhaps in total about 80 photos were displayed along with a couple of videos showing clips of films and stills. I wanted to tidy up a few loose ends here (in Rome) and then concentrate on getting the book (images/text) formatted in Adobe Pagemaker. I hope things will happen quickly . . .

Please tell me that this project isn't dead? I'd pay quite a bit for this book.....

No don't worry it's not dead. I was in touch with Peter recently and as is often the case with these kind of things they take longer than originally envisaged.

Le Bon is right. The book will certainly happen. I now work in Muenster but my wife and 2 kids (2 +4) are still in Marburg which means ++travelling every weekend. I hope to take some time out in the near future and propel the book along. Alberto Grimaldi kindly agreed to write a foreword and I'm still tying up small loose ends. The bulk of the work is finished. It would be nice, though, to include images of Grotte di Salone and the allusive cut night scene location before the project is tied off . . .
Cheers,
Peter (Clinton = Hanley)

Bump for any updates???? Would it help to get the project going if you could collect a bunch of board member names who intend to buy the book? (like all of us :)

I have a few suggestions (if you haven't already tried to follow up on these ideas already).  Have you ever attempted to interview Clint or Eli about their 'adventures' on the set of the movie and what not??    If not, perhaps you can contacting their agents and see if something can be arranged.  I know this sounds pretty far-fetched, but no harm in trying, right?  How about Aldo Giuffre (the drunk captain)?  Perhaps an interview with him and even some of the members of the band at the prison camp can be arranged?  Just a few wild suggestions that popped into my head here - LOL.

I wish I could have gone to that SL exhibition - geeez - sounds to me like it would have been a great trip and an interesting event to go to!
