Title: Theatrical Showings
Post by: cigar joe on November 13, 2002, 05:08:07 PM
 8) If you've never experienced Leone on a big screen  in a theater with an audiance you have to do it. These films were made for audiance appreaciation and like a pilgramage to Mecca if there are any revivals or Leone retrospects at at city. any where near you, you have to go at least once.

My first Leone film I saw in a theater was Once Upon A Time In The West sometime in the seventies. It was one of the rereleases. This was the day I became a film fanatic ;D

I saw all of the Leone westerns in their original theatrical US playdates back in the 60s and saw DUCK YOU SUCKER in 1971 theatrically. The intensity of the colors have never been duplicated even on the best DVDS.

There was a time of Leone mania in New York City, at Times Square Theaters they would run back to back Leone westerns. You could catch 2 or even all three Man with No Name classics in a single afternoon nes paper theater adds would scream "Spend a Day with Leone, or the Man With No Name". Occasionally they would have others mixed in "the Big Gundown", "Death Rides a Horse" etc.  :)

Benito Stefanelli (Rubio in FOD) told me that in Rome people went beserk when Leone´s films reached the highest peak
of popularity.
In one case, at a  cinema where they were showing FFDM,
people dismantled the entrance doors in order to rush in, even if there were no free seats available.

Nighteagle that is pretty wild. It wasn't quite like that here.
