Ok,maybe I could swallow Leo,but these others...Does someone really consider Mark Wahlberg to be an actor?Or Djimon Hounsou?

As I said before I can't believe how many nods The Queen got. The dullest film of the year in my (probably wrong) opinion

If Martin Scorsese doesn't get an Oscar for best director I will be severely pissed off.

 With that accent? ;D

It's been a slow year for cinema. The list of noms proves that. Couldn't care less who wins and who doesn't but I'll still be watching the show.

I'm sure Marty will snatch the golden naked man this time round. The judges won't let him go by another year like that.

If Peter O'Toole is up for a Best Actor Oscar, I sincerely hope he wins more than anything in the world.  He deserved it over Gregory Peck for "Lawrence", and for "A Lion in Winter" over John Wayne (which was a joke, as I much as I like the Duke), and if dies without winning an Oscar, I will be horribly disappointed.  At least Guinness and Scofield won awards for their best performances; the fact that O'Toole hasn't is an f-ing joke.

When's the last time you heard a zimbabwean accent Firecracker?  On what basis would you be able judge whether a zimbabwean accent was "good" or not?

alan arkin is great... eddie murphy can act(maybe not oscar-worthy in the non-sensical sense, but as far as I'm concerned all the prestige of being oscar-worthy basically lost it's punch about 30 years ago)... Will Smith might have a problem with picking decent roles, but he's charismatic and can really pull a movie through, no matter what it is... and F*** all mark wahlberg haters, I'd cast him before 99% of the actors in movies today and if that doesn't make him deserve a NOMINATION than I don't know what does... when one of those guys wins one then I'll jump on the injustice bandwagon, but there are so many shit performances that get applauded nowadays I would say those guys(and what the hell throw leo in there) are definitely worthy of a nomination... that being said whitaker might be the only one I'd actually hand an oscar to if I were running the show.

I've been to South Africa on a hunting trip with my neighbors.
Don't believe in the sport. I went for the country.

Oh and the accent is terrible. NEXT.

EDIT: oh forgot to answer your first question...the last time I heard one was about 2 years ago.

Fair enough.  You went to Zimbabwe?  From the reviews I've read, the accent has been described as "pitch perfect".

Must have been from reviewers who have never heard one themselves.

Perhaps it has something to do with Leo doing the accent that makes it seem so phony to me.

I'm not the only one complaining about the accent though. As I recall Dave Jenkins refused to see the film because of the accent.

I honestly do not see what is the big deal with Leonardo DiCaprio. I guess he is an ok actor, but I've never seen anything with him that makes me think "Hey, this guy is pretty good". If anything he takes away from the movie more than anything else. Gangs of New York was unwatchable to me because of Leo. He never hides his own persona from us. Actually, I'm going to go as far to say that he is awful. You can't force an actor into serious roles, and call him great because of that. Johnny Depp is a pretty good actor, but what has he done? Edward Scissorhands probably his most serious role, but he played it perfect.

So what has Leo done so well?

I haven't seen Blood Diamonds, but I thought he was pretty good in the Departed.

EDIT:  And I don't really mean to be defending him or anything....I just don't think he's terrible as you seem to be describing him.
