I think FDM is Leone's best film, and probably the best example the Italian Western in general. The music, the locations,etc.....it just all came together beautifully in it.

A Few Dollars More is the pick of the 3 for me, probably due to the inclusion of Colonel Mortimer, who is a good foil for he who has No Name, in the same way that Tuco is in GBU. I also feel that the soundtrack (& the effects) are more aligned to the story.   8)

Of the three FDM, OUTITW is more a homage to the traditional western, FDM is a great spaghetti western and the spaghetties for me are above the others.

in my personal opinion fafmd is the best movie out of the 5 mentioned. the score itself does it for me, i could just listen to the movie.  It also has two great lead charachters, manco and the conel and it has some quality soundbites.  clint is also at his best in FDM, he has that suaveness and swagger about him which captivates the watcher.

i hated eastwood and westerns before i saw this movie, now i am in love with both, leone, morricone and eastwood are all legends.

Caius, that's what I've been saying all along te westerns before Leone's were pretty much run into the ground just rehashed plots, Leone brought the anti-hero to the forefront.

leone stripped away the polish and bright lights of the classic hollywood western and what was left was the beauty, corseness and a simplistic struggle to kill or be killed-the birth of sw.
I can hardly stand watching most westerns now.

right on!

It goes without saying FAFDM and OUATIA are superior films artistically, but the kid in me still prefers A Fistful of Dollars. "Joe" is the catalyst of the entire plot because he is alone and doesn't share in the main heroics with anyone, although he does have help from Silvanito and Piripero the undertaker. The Rojos are a truly evil adversary and the final confrontation is the most personal between "the man with no name" and the villain(s) in the dollars trilogy.

FAFDM.  I'm surprised that OUATIA is losing so badly.  :o

Out of the 3 I would undoubtably pick FAFDM, because it's like a synthesis of the dollars-trilogy and OUTIW all in one.  It's got the musical device-revenge theme and on the other hand it's got Eastwood, Van Cleef and Indio in it.  And it's most fun.
