Title: "If you're going to shoot, shoot, don't talk!"
Post by: KevinJCBJK on August 16, 2007, 11:11:36 AM
That is probably the best advice ever given to a gun man in film history.

;D   You are probably right! ;D   Especialy wnen you (on this great line), add the scene when Tuco removeing the foam from his gun and do it with just a single movement of his hand... Great! O0

And he was naked too when he got killed, wouldn't want to get killed by a naked guy would you? They should put that in the obituary.

"Sought revenge for lost arm, killed by naked man."

That scene is HILARIOUS. One of the best scenes you will ever see in a WESTERN Film.

I have to wonder if that line was in the script, added later, or even ad-libbed, since it has such a neat thrown-off quality about it. I piss myself laughing every time I see it. ;D

;D yeah and I remember Eli saying he didn't expect people to find it so funny.

Also the scene was paid homage to in Die Hard, "Next time you are going to kill someone, don't hesitate" BANG BANG! "Good advice"

Great homage there in "Die Hard" if you ask me.

I don`t remember this line from Die Hard, but I agree with TB: great homage to the GBU!

And let's not forget the scene from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" with the fancy swordsman getting shot by Indy. ;D

;D Yes, Harrison Ford didn't feel like doing sword play that day.

Do we know how the Master found Eli? I heard how he found Lee for FAFDM, but my GBU dvd has no extras...

How can be somebody SO COOL?  O0

Actually, Leone chose Wallach mainly from his role as Charlie Gant in How the West was Won (like his comedic ability, teased young soon-to-be Chip Douglas there), not from his role as Calvera in Magnificent Seven.  My guess would be "both".

Eli Wallach is just a great actor. I dunno if he's the coolest ever. I can name a handful who are cooler, but he can sure act his ass off.

Calvera is one of the best things in TMS. I heard Kurosawa liked the remake  :P
But Eli is better when he's not a villain, just... ugly.  ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, I don't buy the official line. It's impossible that SL didn't see M7; it's impossible that Calvera didn't influence the development of Tuco; that development, a collaboration between Wallach and Leone, occurred because the prototype was there for all to see.

I think that quote reflects Leone's style.
