This is mediocre, boring. I've seen worse though. It is competently directed but the story is flimsy (a Union lieutenant is injustly accused of robbery and murder, manages to escape, becomes an outlaw but then he discovers the real culprits and everything goes OK). Some scenes are ridiculous (the Indian - resembling no kind of Indian at all- living in a thicket saying to the lieutenant: "This is MY land"), the schoolmaster looking as old as his pupil the lieutenant, the escape from prison which is left to figure out to you how it is made: the lieutenant trades clothes with the priest but apparently there's nobody guarding the prison at all.
The only originality is in the fight with the thorny leaves. De Masi's main theme is not very original but it's the best thing of a movie which gets 4\10.
