Clint & Marvin if you've never seen it!

I'm going to try and keep it that way.  ;)

I found the Simpsons clip I was looking for on Youtube, but it's been removed by the user.  Homer has mistakenly rented PYW thinking its Clint and Lee brawling and fighting.

The classic line is something along the lines of "Oh, thank God, here comes Lee Marvin, he always plays a drunken buffoon!"  ;D

I caught this somewhere in the middle and I couldn't even make it for 5 minutes. It was just bad.

Oh, come on. This film is so unbelivably underrated, it's not even funny. This classic scene alone with Lee Marvin is worth the purchase of the film.

Except for the performance of "They Call the Wind Mariah"  everything in this film is gold.

My parents were watching this movie just before I was born. I still haven't seen it myself, but I loved the Simpsons parody.

For the morbidly curious, TCM is having this on tomorrow at noon. I may just have to watch. :-\

I have it on DVD, so no need for me to wait for TCM to air it.  ;)

I would recommend that you spring chickens who were not around when the movie was made should take the time to watch it. Most of you will (should) be pleasantly surprised.

I always though it would have worked as a straight Western had a great premise.

Not sure what you mean, given that the movie was trashed when first released.

Yeah, Lee Marvin singing has nothing to do with it. :D

The location set looked good though that you have to admit, a serious remake without signing in the Spaghetti Western mode might work or could be interesting.

Maybe, but then it wouldn't be Paint Your Wagon.

The music is essential. But I like the plot--a woman with two husbands, and the complications that ensue. You don't get to see that kind of thing too often. And this has got to be the only Western Jean Seberg was ever in, what?

But unfortunately Seberg wasn't good in this one, nor was Eastwood.
Apart from Marvin roaring Wandering Star I remember nothing which was good in this lousy film.

But it seems it was quite successful. According to the Variety list in Phil Hardy's Western book PYW made as much money in the USA as all 3 Dollar films together. It's a strange world.

Seberg did plenty of GOOD films that weren't Westerns, so why should I care that one of her bad ones is?

Sorry for being the dissenting voice, but I still like it and I think it is a very well made movie. Yes, it is a musical comedy (although there is some drama in it as well); but as a matter of fact, it beats most of the comedy-SWs.

But it isn't a bad film. I'd say it's my third favorite filmed musical.

If a guy like me who can watch The Trial of Billy Jack the whole way through twice, can't get through half an hour of a movie, that means it's terrible.

paddy Chayefsky of Marty fame took part a writer in the comedy, musical, romance, western that's full of drinking, gambling & singing.
many of the extras were " hippies " living near where the crew were building the sets. " wanderin star " won lee a gold record after going # 1 on the British charts. paramount offered lee one millione dollars plus a percentage at the door to do PYW causing  him to not be in Peckinpah's wild bunch, a project he help put together.  lee was apparently drunk every day of filming PYW.

Paint Your Wagon will be on TCM on August 31. And if you don't like it, then you can also watch on the same day other Clint Eastwood westerns: AFOD, FAFDM, GBU, The Outlaw Josey Walls, Hang 'Em High; and as a bonus, the documentary The Eastwood Factor.
