Title: Leone@dvdpricesearch.com
Post by: dave jenkins on February 05, 2008, 01:05:33 AM
Recently I learned about the handy search engine dvdpricesearch.com for DVD price comparisons in R1. I ran some of the Leone titles just now and here are the low bidders:

Once Upon a Time in the West: DeepDiscount.com ($6.13); DVDPacific ($5.75 + shipping = $8.12)
The Sergio Leone Anthology: DeepDiscount.com ($31.49)
Good, Bad, Ugly (single disc, theatrical cut): DeepDiscount.com ($10.65)
Once Upon a Time in America: DVD Box Office ($16.18)

I have used both DVDPacific and DeepDiscount and have been happy with both. DeepDiscount never adds additional fees for shipping, but their orders typically take longer to arrive. I have never used DVD Box Office.

I wonder why OUATITW tends to be the considerably cheapest of all the Leone films. I always see it on bargon bins at Wal Mart, and if not, then for no more than 10 bucks anywhere else.  It should be a crime to sell that movie so cheap.

I guess it is all about supply & demand. However, I find it hard to believe
that this film is still so under-appreciated.

But hopefully at the lowest overprice, yes?

Yes, of course. That wasn't sarcasm, every now and again the midwesterner in me seeps out in dangerous levels.

The Sergio Leone Anthology: DeepDiscount.com ($31.49)
Now the site is showing this as cheapest at amazon ($44.99). (But amazon marketplace has it used for as low as $31.87)

Buy.com has OUATIA for $10.00 (plus shipping, natch).

There's a single-disc release coming May 13 that is going for about half what the 2-disc set costs.

Barnes & Nobles (online) has the pre-Restoration (single disc) DVD of GBU for $7.49, for those wanting the film w/o the extra scenes put back in.

Deep Discount has the GBU Blu-ray (May 12 release) for USD 18.97.

Now Wal-mart is the low bidder: $19.86 for the GBU Blu-ray.

ADDED: DvdPacific is listing it for $20.51, but that's with free shipping.

Not really. I've seen it for roughly that price at Wal-Mart before.

Does Wal-Mart offer free shipping?

It offers no shipping. :D

Exactly. You have to go to Wal-Mart to make your purchase, which involves the expenditure of time and money. Free shipping is a value that Wal-Mart is not offering, so the amazon offer is the better deal. Time to sign up for those Econ classes, Grogs.

Yeah but in order to get free shipping don't you have to be a premium member (which I've found out recently costs $79 per year)? Plus the Wal-Mart nearest my house is only a five minute drive, which is more convenient than a 3-5 day wait.

Plus you have to pick the package from the post when it arrives. Turns out the same sh*t.

The package is delivered to your door. To get the free shipping, you have to order 25 dollars worth of stuff. You wait until you've got $20.00 worth of items you need to order (pretty easy to do) and then add OUATITW to the order. But hey, if you're jonesing for the whole Wal-Mart experience, why deny yourself?

When? Around 11:00 a.m. on a working day?

Great.
