Title: Hard Ground (2003)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0349529/

Set in the early 1900s...

John 'Chill' McKay (Burt Reynolds) is being transported to Yuma with a bunch of other prisoners, where he is about to serve the last 10 years of his 20-year sentence for killing a man, but the other prisoners escape and he's left alone in the desert. An old acquaintance of his - Sheriff Hutch Hutchinson (Bruce Dern) rescues him and offers him a deal: if he helps him capture the fugitives he'll let him free. He accepts...

I accidentally caught this on TV and watched it only because of Burt Reynolds and Bruce Dern. It was worth it: the two offer good performances and the rest of the cast is bearable. Nothing new, revolutionary or extraordinary here, in any segment, but it's good for what it is, like and above average TV episode of some W show. The story of two old disillusioned men riding towards their last adventure is simple, but it's carried out without too much mincing.

(around) 5.5/10
