Title: The Secret of Convict Lake (1951)
Post by: cigar joe on November 15, 2009, 10:01:06 AM
Michael Gordon Directed. This is one I never heard of, The Secret of Convict Lake (1951) Glen Ford in a partially snowbound Western caught it on Fox Movie channel this morning, interesting reminded me somewhat of Day of the Outlaw, The Great Silence, The Ox Bow Incident, A group of outlaws escape a Nevada penitentiary in 1870's and make it to the Owens Valley where they find a group of women Gene Tierney, Ethel Barrymore, Zachary Scott, Ann Dvorak, Jeanette Nolan, Helen Westcott and Ruth Donnelly minus their menfolk. Ford has guided then there for an ulterior motive, $$$ and revenge.

Interesting worth a watch. 7/10

I forgot to mention that the beginning is a snow Western depicting the outlaws crossing the Sierras the rest features winter with patches of snow, its on right now on FMC. Just noticed that Jack Lambert from "Day of the Outlaw" is in this too.

Uh, I could be wrong about this, but isn't Zachary Scott a guy? :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. Sounds like a good find, CJ. I'd never heard of this film.

That is what happens when you cut and paste.

I've seen Zachary Scott in quite a few films lately Colt 45, this one, and another film noir recently, a sleazy character seems to be his stock portrayal he sort of reminds me a lot of Eric Roberts.

He's in a lot of Joan Crawford films. He usually plays a cad (convincingly, too).

Too female-oriented for my tastes. Worth a watch. 6\10
