Title: Why Baxter....
Post by: iceman on November 23, 2010, 01:50:08 PM
Guys,
Why do you think Leone chose the English/American name Baxter for one of the feuding families.  I know it was on the Border but cant remember if San Miguel was in Mexico or the US. If it was in Mexico why have an "american" Sheriff? If it was in the US why have a mexican name or is San Miguel "american"?

If I sound silly its cause' Im from the UK....lol

As I understand, a lot of places in the SW-ern US have Spanish names.

Well you have to remember that Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, were all a part of Mexico in the first third of the 1800's, that would explain it.

sort of like Istria , being Venetian-Austo/Hungarian-Italian-Yugoslavian-Croatian (and whatever I've left off)  O0
