Whoa, nice offer for the DVDs there: http://www.amazon.it/Sergio-Leone-Capolavori-Aldo-Giuffre/dp/B003VY4O2C/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1291584106&sr=1-1

6 DVDs - with I presume all of his movies - for 20.60 Euros, free shipping.

Sorry for the unintentional usurpation of the BR thread.

You might have noticed it already - I live in the past.

I'm so glad they've finally got amazon.it

I used to use IBS.it and the shipping was so expensive!

Who can report on the Italian GBU Blu-ray?

Don't think there's any English audio  :(

I have it. No english soundtrack and picture quality puts MGM BD to shame. What else would you like to know?

Region free or not?

IBS.it, dvd.it and amazon.it all list it with English audio ???. Are they all mistaken?

Yes, it's region free.

I believe so. The only audio options are Italian mono PCM and Italian DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. No english subtitles, either.

Shame. I thought as much! Ah well, guess I will go for the MGM releases then.

If the PQ is really that much better than the MGM I'll have to get a copy. We've never had true sub-titles for this title anyway; the MGM uses dub-titles.

Cool! Very thank you. Weird how the DNR screws with the flesh tones.

Well, I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas . . .

Here's a MGM vs Mondo BD comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d61seWBZ0I

Might want to bear Jordan Krug's comments in mind from the GBU blu-ray thread:

Uh oh....while the mondo disc is jaw dropping sharp and the color is stellar, there's a big issue with it...I just posted this on the avs forum:

There's a big problem with this new mondo transfer....I'm assuming because this was from the original negative (and not the mgm interpositive based version) that each cut is glued together or spliced together and that over time this has warped the first two frames of the incoming shot and the last two frames of the outgoing shot, because EVERY CUT JUMPS....mostly each cut slightly shifts or warps, but literally there are cuts where the frame jumps a 3rd up the screen - and you can see the top of the frame at the bottom of the screen on the cut! (as if the film is out of it's register as it's being scanned) Case in point, look at the 2nd or 3rd cut in the scene where tuco is shot of his horse (and then after Blondie/Eastwood comes in for the first time). Tuco reaches for his gun, and the last 2 frames jump a 3rd up the screen, his boot is now on the bottom of the screen divided by a black line (a film frame line) - it would be great if someone who can capture br could post those frames up....

ARRRRGGG I really can't believe they would have let this go...they must have decided it wasn't worth the money to fix it...it's such a amazing transfer otherwise....

I suspect a package containing his Dollars Trilogy, on BR.

Might want to bear Jordan Krug's comments in mind from the GBU blu-ray thread:

Ya, I'm a film/television editor by profession so it's my JOB to notice the little stuff, but this defect really bugged me throughout the movie - HOWEVER, the picture is so sharp and rich with detail I'd have to say it's STILL worth seeing....but you were warned...:) C'mon MGM, now that you've been un-bankrupted, how about buying out mondo's version and giving er a fix! (and english audio)

Unfortunately, this will probably NEVER happen...if I get a blu ray burner/ripper in the near future I might tackle it :)

Thanks. So a set combining the previous Blu-ray Italian editions of GBU, FAFDM, and My Name is Nobody. Is that right? And are all 3 discs Region Free?

Nice sounding job Jordan!

Right about the former. Not sure about the latter, but I guess it will be the same as the original individual Mondo releases. I thought you posted elsewhere that you have that Momitsu/Sherwood region free player that the DVD Beaver guy is always going on about?

Well, yeah. But I haven't had to put it to the test yet. There have been so many region-free discs that I haven't had to bother with the region-locked ones. But I guess I could finally take the plunge . . .

It should be easy to test. Simply change the region to B or C and put in one of your Criterion region A locked discs. If it now says region error then it's probably working.
