There's a region A release coming, too: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00HZN8TBC/
"Man With No Name" instead of the UK's "Spaghetti Western" Trilogy. Via HDD: http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/MGM/Disc_Announcements/The_Man_with_No_Name_Trilogy_4K_Remastered_Edition_Blu-ray_Up_For_Pre-Order_/13772 One commenter there mentioned that only GBU got the 4K restoration. 5
A Fistful of Dollars / Re: 50 Years« on: January 14, 2014, 03:29:06 PM »
Well, there is no Per un pugno di dollari forum here, so communicating in the A Fistful of Dollars forum will have to do.

Yeah, I know, the americans did not get to see it until a few years later. It's still a 1964 movie, no matter what language the title is translated to.

A Fistful of Dollars / 50 Years« on: January 06, 2014, 04:37:29 PM »
I just realized, it will be 50 years since 'Fistful' has been released! Quite a milestone. Are there any celebrations planned?

That reminds me of the "Horse shoe test" from one of the Lucky Luke comic books: To make real coffee, you slightly moisten a pound of coffee, heat it for a while and then see if a horse shoe sinks in. If it does, you've used too much water.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Only God Forgives (2013)« on: April 25, 2013, 12:31:27 PM »
The title is an obvious ripoff of the SW "God Forgives, I don't" with Terence Hill and Bud Spencer. Credit where it's due.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: The Eastwood Factor« on: June 03, 2010, 03:58:45 PM »
Oops, didn't think this would be considered off-topic. Posted it in the wrong forum.
Just watched the Clint Eastwood docu on TCM, by Richard Schickel. It focussed mostly on his later works. Very dissapointing was his treatment of Leone: half a sentence (shared with a mention of "rawhide") and two still pictures was all he gave to FFOD, FAFDM and GBU. Didn't even mention the movies by name. 11

It's supposedly a newly restored print.
http://www.tcm.com/festival/#/events/schedule0425 THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY (2 hr - 59 min) GRAUMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM Often hailed as the greatest of all "spaghetti Westerns," this 1966 epic has become an indelible part of our culture from Ennio Morricone's influential score to the iconic presence of Clint Eastwood as "The Man With No Name." Director Sergio Leone expanded writer Luciano Vincenzoni's idea for a film about three scoundrels looking for treasure during the Civil War to deal on a grand scale with the absurdity of war. U.S. release on June 1st:
http://www.amazon.com/Man-No-Name-Trilogy-Blu-ray/dp/B003EYEF2S/ It's unclear if this is a new transfer, or the same they used for the recent DVDs and the GBU Blu-ray. 14

General Discussion / Re: Blu-ray Disc« on: March 24, 2009, 01:06:00 PM »
Yes, I'm very excited about this. I have been waiting a long time for a Leone on Blu.
FOD was one of the first Blu-Rays announced when the format came out in the U.S., but it never materialized. Though I haven't seen any Techniscope in high-def, I have high hopes for good picture quality. Tecniscope has basically the same negative area for 2.35:1 frames as Super35, which looks spectacular. And then it seems we finally get the Frayling commentary on GBU instead of the Shickel one. As far as I know, this new commentary was ready before the Anthology DVDs came out, but the studio apparently did not want to change the GBU DVD for that release. |
