II have been  observing a fox squirrel with a horrific injury or skin lesion
on it's side, feeding on the sunflower seeds.
 He moves slower than the others and is definitely not
100%. I have been able to approach him and feed him shelled peanuts
on several occasions.

Try this guy for advice - UK based but really nice and helpfull and knowledgable     follw the links to email him.  There's something called 'purple stuff' for horsed which you could spray on to the wound perhaps?  Let me know
