POur moi la photographie et la mise en scène de certains passages du Soldat Ryan sont un travail de maitre. Nottament le réalisme des scènes de combat. Il est très difficile de faire sentir le spectateur qu'il est DANS la bataille et qu'il éprouve les même choses qu'un soldat.
Et Spielberg l'a reussi.

I think Leone's intention is also to show that all the american political system is corrupted if some secretary's origins are mafia ones. It is indeed a critic of the american dream. In order to become powerful and respectable you have to doublecross your best friends in life, that is the price to reach the american dream....

Ehh, tu places Fight Club à hauteur de GBU?  Fight Club est un EXCELLENT film, je suis complètement d'accord. Personellement j'admire tout ce que David Fincher a fait, pour moi c'est LE PLUS GRAND réalisateur de sa génération. Il a pris une pause, ça fait quelques années qu'il ne fait rien, et je trouve ça bien. A mon avis Panic Room est une leçon de photographie, pour nous autres qui voulont devenir réalisateurs.

Le mec a commencé à fond. "Les Duellistes", "Alien" et Blade Runner" tout ça en moins de 5 ans. Que voulez vous faire d'autre après ça? Il est très difficile de maintenir le niveau. J'ai adoré aussi 1492. J'ai même aimé Légende avec Tom Cruise. Ridley Scott est un fantastique créateur de faux univers.
Par ailleurs, je te conseille de télécharger ou louer Kingdom of Heaven, au moins pour avoir un avis.
Que pensez vous de David Fincher?

Yes, and also Sean throws up Bakunin's "Patriotism" after Juan's speech against the way in wich revolutions are made...
Sean is a politician, even if he is anarchist, he believes in something and in a better world. I don't think Juan believes in this at all.
I personnally think (and I agree with Dave Jenkins) the only think that changes in Juan's vision of life is that know there is a place for friendship and trust in his heart, even if Sean is dead. And that's what Sean changes in Juan's life.
On the other side, Juan contribution to Sean's life is that friendship and all that surrounds it is a better way to hapiness than revolution...

Je voudrai parler dans cette discussion d'un autre de mes réalisateurs préférés, Ridley Scott. Il est c'est vrai, en pleine décadence et depuis quelques années même son "petit" frère Tony fait des meilleurs films que lui...
Et pourtant j'ai adoré certaines scènes de Kingdom Of Heaven. Le mec devient répétitif, il engage des acteurs nuls, il tombe souvent dans le mélodrame, mais il y a des scènes (la "bataille" dans les bois au début du film, avec des philtres d'images bleuatres et grisatres et le blanc de la neige qui tombe) d'une beauté visuelle époustouphlante. Qu'en pensez vous?

The music in that scene is great, but look again your dvd and continue hearing the melody 3 or 4 more minutes, when Sean and Juan arrive at the caves and Juan finds all his sons dead.... That Morricone track is called "Dead sons". I have now more than 150 Morricone cds, and from all those cds "Dead Sons" is my favourite Morricone track.

Let's discuss about this: I believe Leone's intention with this movie is to give a strong message against the way in wich revolutions are made. Juan's speech against the intelectual leadership of revolutions is extremely clear, where are the people that can't read after the revolution? They are dead. While the intelectual leadership rules now the country. Don't get me wrong, I'm not myself against revolutions, "on the contraire".
It is clear to me that after exploring the american dream disillusion Leone was in his way to explore the revolutionnary disillusion. He started with DYS and he was about to get more serious with "900 Days". Death took him from us before he could make that (for sure) masterpiece.

Je ne veux pas m'engager sur un débat à l'infinit (ou peut être je le veux bien!!!!) mais je pense qu'à part quelques pélérins comme vous et moi le type de cinèma de Leone n'interesse personne en France.
