Oh hell yeah, when I saw there was a new post here I was hoping it'd have to do with a restoration.

I'm sure Criterion is releasing this, but lets hope that it just comes in a giant box set like their Varda / Bergman / Fellini. Im weary of buying Kurosawa Blus because I can't imagine they're not working on a big set.

Public Speaking (2010) - 9/10. Scorsese's documentary on Fran Lebowitz, the funniest woman in America. Something to watch while I wait for Netflix to issue Pretend It's a City on disc.
Are you not gonna watch it on Netflix? I've got a feeling that one won't be getting a physical release.

I didn't like Public Speaking when it came out but I was also 20 years old and thought it was annoying. I liked Pretend It's a City a lot, 8/10.

John Carpenter's Christine (1982) - 9/10
The Lord of the Rings (2001 - 2003) - 7/10

Trump is a mental case, and the bastards who stormed the Capitol are assholes. He and they are childish sore losers. He lost the election, plain and simple. Hopefully now he will go away and shut the fuck up forever. Fat chance.
I'm glad. I hope the other sane conservatives I know feel the same way and that Trumpers fade away quickly.

Conservatives of SLWB, thoughts?

An hour south of Rhode Island would put you in the Atlantic Ocean. OK, I guess I can call you the Man From Atlantis from now on.
Nonono I meant I am an hour south of Boston - in Rhode Island! But Boston is the nearest more major city, assuming Providence does not count.

Boston Guy?
an hour south of (Rhode Island) but yes, snow is piling!

I've been striking gold with some films I love this weekend (and some that I not so love) as I stay inside with a minor cold (or perhaps COVID??? waiting a test back)

Batman Returns (1992) - 8/10
Armageddon (1998) - 5/10
Small Axe: Mangrove (2020) - 8.5/10
Small Axe: Lovers Rock (2020) - 9/10
A Christmas Carol (2009) - 4.5/10
Jazz on a Summer's Day (1959) - 9/10
A Brighter Summer Day (1991) - 9/10

the summer day theme is coincidental

Chungking Express (1994) - 6/10

My local (Boston) cinema is doing a WKW retro also, but I'm going to wait for the Blu. Not streaming quality, all the special features in one spot. But I'll be getting it day one for sure. Other than Chungking I've only seen each of these movies once but they've never left my mind.

That hardcover book is expensive as fuck. I wonder if it will get a re-release along with the box set?

I've also never seen his shorts, including The Hand, so I'm excited for that. But I've seen all his features. I'm probably going to grab blu for My Blueberry Nights, Grandmaster and Ashes of Time Redux along with the set so I can just watch the whole filmography again.

DJ if you have options for the best versions of these, even if they are not Region A, let me know

Yeah I bought it on eBay for about the same price. I haven't watched it yet (I recently watched an HD Amazon version) but the packaging is really nice. I'll take a look when I listen to the commentaries sometime while I'm cooking this week. Ive heard one of them before but its been many years.

Nomad: In the Footsteps of Bruce Chatwin (2019) - 6/10. As I suspected, Herzog appropriates Chatwin's story as his own. There are several interesting anecdotes but they don't add up to much. Of course we get a lot of references to Herzog's films. I expected to see clips from Cobra Verde, but I had no idea there was a Chatwin connection to Scream of Stone. The clips of that made me want to see it again, and I suddenly realized I hadn't watched it since 1992. WTH? A check on amazon shows that Ripley's has a DVD available. Ordered!
I've been watching a ton of Werner lately. I watched Nomad last years and liked it a lot, maybe a 7 or 8. I'm interested in checking out Fireball... usually when a new Herzog movie is coming out, I'll watch a handful of those I haven't seen before. I really liked La Soufriere and God's Angry Man from this week.

I've never seen Scream of Stone, it's one of 3 or 4 of his fiction works that I'm missing out on.

DJ can you share some photos of your film collection? Seems to me like you have thousands of movies.

Drink how is COVID for you? How bad on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the worst? Just use your typical rating scale, I sincerely hope you don?t rate it as high as you would American Sniper.

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York - 10/10
An accurate portrayal of Donald Trump, who is not the president, helping MacCully find his way around a hotel. A fitting depiction of the only thing he'll be doing in his final years.

The Apprentice (TV Series, 2004 - 2015) - 10/10
A nice reminder that Donald Trump was nothing better than a trash TV reality host before his failed, loser presidency. At least this lasted more than 8 years! Fortunately, his new show was cancelled after only 4 seasons.

what happened today? drink you usually update this one with news.
