One great story:
We were shooting the scene on the roof, Leone was doing the master shot from the roof next door.
He called action and then shouted to me across the rooftops in that thick accent "Okay, Julie, start F***ING!"
The memory of it makes me laugh out loud.

LMAO that's a great story!

Hey thanks for posting this link and for your interest in my career!
I gave up acting many years ago and switched to music.
"Once...America" was a highlight of my acting career, I'm so grateful to have worked with a genius like Leone.
I'm happy to answer questions about the making of the film or my experience working on it.
In the meantime, I hope you Sergio Leone fans will check out my band, download a song or two, and come check us out live if we play in your town.

Now you better stop squeezing me or I'm gonna poop in my pants.
Peace!
Jewels

How did you communicate with Leone? Did Leone speak any English?

Finally transferred this to DVD from my old VHS copy from 2000. So I've now stuck it on YouTube for those of you who have yet to see it in it's untruncated form.  :)

Just sent a Email to Robert on his website, so he can answer this question.
Also, I ask of his memories on working with Leone on Genius.
He is a down to earth guy and should answer.
I asked that he posts here.

GREAT!

There's enough content for a book but for maximum authenticity, impact and success, its
author should collaborate with some-one who worked on the movie or a member of the cast
such as Woods, De Niro or Scott Tiler.

Suggestions for chapters:

1. Background

2. The Book The Hoods

3. Writers and a screenplay

4. Casting

5. The movie

6. Locations

7. Enigmas and interpretations

8. Missing and deleted scenes

9. Downloads & links

great idea!

Wow, Sergio.L. that's really impressive - the music improves the scene immeasurably.

Well done  O0

THANKS  ::)

Yeah the music and the voice-over suck big time.  I've not seen much beyond the first six minutes but I hope the rest of it isn't tongue in cheek all the time.  The video case says:

An amusing and thrilling send-up of the American gangster movie starring Richard Harris, Edmond O'Brien (last film), Ann Turkel, Chuck Connors and Bradford Dillman. A unique movie that blends the James Bond type of thriller with the Matt Helm kind of film and emerges with a cynical and pleasing style of its own. Music by Henry Mancini.

I think it's one of those you're quite glad it's no longer than its running time of 98 minutes.

 :)

I added some of Morricone's music to the clip.

Watch it. It looks much better now!

I've also uploaded it to YouTube:

It may not have been particularly suitable for Once Upon A Time In America but it would have been different with Morricone music and Leone would have undoubtedly made a better job of this scene.

Thank you so much for the upload! But the music really sucks...  ;D

Leone would have done it MUCH better!!!

Is it a good movie?

Takeshi Kitano or Michael Mann

...maybe Eastwood  ;D
