It was just fantastic - kinda missed a few themes - and the programme could have comprised 2 or 3 themes more, but hey... he's getting older, even though he was kinda running across the stage at one point. It was incredible. What a soprano, too. And the solo violin!

Well, I thought it was Once/Mexico was really, really bad. No soul, no decent script, lousy characters. It's been a long time since I saw it, though.

Why, I was just hoping this was the perfect opportunity for wearing it! Damn! I'll not shave for 5 days, then!
There are some pubs nearby - I know coz I went to the venue in July - just to read the sad little cancellation message on the doors of the apollo. I then immediately knocked back 3 pints in some nearby pub. Man, I was down, down, down...
Still don't know if my wife is going to make this concert, so perhaps I'll spend some time in the afternoon trying to sell a ticket.

I've got it as well, and the DVD; however, I don't have the Cinema Concerto.
Well - I think it's pretty good. Some minor flaws. Organ instead of soprano in Once/West. E of G doesn't have the same energy. But those are details. Love Fistful Dollars theme and Once/America and Gabriel's Obo and Cinema Paradiso - that piano blows me away - can't wait to hear it all live.
Actually I recommend the Prague Symphonics double CD with Morricone Themes. Starts out heftily with a damn fine and hefty version of Harmonica's theme.

Well, I still haven't found Holy Mountain (haven't looked really) yet - but it's good to know that it's waiting for me.... Let me promote the idea of a Jodorowsky Box Set Extravaganza with Holy Mountain, El Topo and Santa Sangre and loads of extras on his surreal work in European comics. And still images from the films. And interviews. That's what I want. He's currently involved, among many other things, in this western comic - with the excellent artist Boucq:  It's called Bouncer. And it's not childrens' stuff.

For the first time in years I have been totally blown away by a film.
Yesterday in an underground film club I watched Santa Sangre by Alejandro Jodorowsky on the big screen - from DVD allright, but what a magnificent transfer from Anchor Bay.
Why haven't I seen this film before? Why isn't it recognized as a modern masterpice? I want to see it again - I have been thinking about it all day today.
I don't even wanna start to describe or explain - this one is a gem!
Sad thing about this underground film club is that they also put on a lot of trash and exploitation, and some of the younger audience, being used to this, obvioulsy thought that this was meant to be "funny" in a trashy or campy kind of way. Laughed out loud all the time so that the rest of us would get that they distanced themselves from the film. The sad thing is that they didn't get the movie at all. This is moving, horrifying and beautiful stuff with some extremely haunting images - the most beautiful photograhed film I've seen in years.
Gotta get the DVD, project it on my wall, and listen to that magnificent soundtrack without being bothered by annoying ignorant runts who think they know about films. They don't know art from camp, obviously - admitted, it's a fine line at times, but with Santa Sangre... man, this is pure cinematographic art. Literally like nothing you have ever seen before - as far away from the Hollywood formulae as one can imagine. But still coherent.
I knew Jodorowsky's comics were great, some of the best (John Difool), but I had no idea his films were like this! Gotta get Holy Mountain too.

Angel Eyes was in the camp because he was told (in one of the newly added scenes) that that's where the Yankees would probably take Bill Carson had he been captured. If I remember correctly. And I probably don't.
Stephens was under pressure from Angel Eyes and it's no wonder that he goes on about everything he thinks can save him.
If Carson hadn't been alive we wouldn't have had a movie.
The canon control is part of Blondie's cool. He knows when it's the right moment to light the fuse.
Anyway - movies are like that...

You're welcome - and I think you'll have a very hard time tracking down DVD's with English subtitles, unfortunately. "Festen" is released internationally so that won't be a prob. Pusher Trilogy is outthere as well. Gritty Mean Streets the Danish way if you can imagine that. The not so wonderful Copenhagen, directed by a guy whose favourite movie is Cannibal Holocaust.

This is what I heard said about every new Altman movie starting from the '90's (or was it before?).
Did you also hear that about his ballet film with Neve Campbell or whoever it is or Pret-a-porter? Coz they suck. Gosford park is great but not as good as Prairie Home which isn't as good as Short Cuts.
