There are some good scenes but the entire movie doesn't really work for me.

I wish he made his movies a bit faster.  When will the new one be out?  Can't wait.  Well, maybe his films wouldn't be so damn good if he did them faster.  Anyway, Tarantino, hurry up!

General Discussion / Re:Leone, Auteur?

Maybe not really present in the dollars-trilogy, there's much melancholy his later films.  It's always something that makes me identify with his films.  He must have been a very melancholic and nostalgic guy.  I feel his films are more about things that have come to an end than things that start.  OUTIW, DYS and OUTIA are good examples of this.

Some which come to my mind:
GBU (you're a son of a AA-AA-AAA--AAAAA)
Kill Bill vol 2 (!)
Apocalypse Now
Planet of the Apes
OUTIW
Liar
The others
Pulp Fiction

One thing is certain, Leone knew how to start a movie, and he sure knew how to end one.

I think he means badly dubbed in a sixties kind of way.

Can't we throw out Elisabeth McGovern out of the original and replace her with new footage of Jennifer Connely?

Come again?  Get outta here! ;)

2001 still doesn't feel dated to me.  I first watched it when I was 18 or so and still with every viewing, I realize what a beauty it is.

That's only a matter of taste, isn't it?  As far as I'm concerned, their music is better than a shitload (read: 99%) of contemporary music.  99% of what people call music is confused with 'musical travesties'.

I dunno if there are a lot of Metallica-fans on this board.  Singer James Hetfield's favourite movie is GBU, and on (almost?) every concert they play the original 'the Ecstacy of Gold' before they come up.  Last year they did at a festival in Belgium.  This year I did not go, but when I saw the livestream on my computer, my heart broke.  Not only did they play the music, they played almost the whole scene on these big screens...  Pretty cool way to start a show, isn't it?

High Plains Drifter and GBU.  He did a very good job in Dirty Harry too.
