Off-Topic Discussion / The Last Samurai« on: January 17, 2004, 09:00:10 AM »
Saw Last Samurai yesterday.
I lliked it, good movie, I think with a better directior we could have seen a GREAT movie, an epic one... What I wanted to say is that, in The Last Samurai we find, again, the railroad..... and the different forms of destructive capitalism. Modernization in Japan ment industrialisation, "capitalisation" and destruction of the ancient visions of the world, like the Bushido of the Samurai. The Tom Cruise character, like the John Dumbar character in Dance with wolves, escapes from capitalist "civilization", who destroys EVERYTHING. 8
Once Upon A Time In The West / Charles Bronson profile« on: January 09, 2004, 01:15:52 PM »
Have you noticed that almost every time Bronson appears in the screen we only see his profile?
He appears, from the right or from the left of the scene, he waits a seconds, and then he speaks. I just found that "entrance" excellent!!!! 9
Off-Topic Discussion / Favourite Comic« on: January 06, 2004, 12:43:05 PM »
We have talking about Comics or Bande Dessinées, as we call them in France or Belgium.
If we agree that comics have an important influence on cinema, I would like to know what are your favourite comics or Bandes Dessinées, who are your favourite drawers and authors. My favourite comic is Corto Maltese, by the italian Hugo Pratt. I like very much Enki Bilal and a drawer from my country called Breccia. I also like Franck Miller from the US, teh original drawer of Daredevil. What about you? 10
Off-Topic Discussion / In the Line of Fire (1993)« on: April 29, 2003, 01:30:37 PM »
Speaking of Clint Eastwood films, has anyone seen Wolfgang Petersen's "In The Line Of Fire" with of course, Clint, John Malkovich, Renee Russo and, one more time, Morricone's soundtrack?

I just read in IMDB that Al Mulock committed suicide on the set of OUTW.
Does anyone knows if this is true? 12
Once Upon A Time In America / Trivia about OUTA« on: April 08, 2003, 12:51:07 PM »
You can get more trivia on Amazon.com
The Miami Beach scenes were actually filmed in St. Petersburg at the Don Cesar resort. When Noodles (De Niro) is watching TV, there's an interview with a character called James Conway O'Donnell. In Goodfellas (1990) De Niro's character was called James Conway. In preparation for his role as David 'Noodles' Aaronson, Robert De Niro requested a private meeting with renowned crime boss, Meyer Lansky, upon whom the character was loosely based. The request was denied. Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and James Woods later appeared in Casino (1995). In both of these films, De Niro's character is Jewish. Claudia Cardinale reportedly wanted the role of Carol, but was turned down by Leone. 13
Off-Topic Discussion / Who's the best actor in the hisroty of cinema?« on: March 31, 2003, 01:50:02 PM »
Ok, a new topic.
I would like to know who is your favourite actor. Who's the best actor in the history of cinema in your opinion. You must name a single actor, you can't say: "I like X very much but I also like Y". No. Just one actor, that's all. To me, the best actor in history is Marlon Brando. What do you guys think? 14
Off-Topic Discussion / U Turn (1997)« on: March 23, 2003, 02:43:32 PM »
Has anybody seen Oliver Stone's "U-Turn"?
It seems to me a little hommage to Leone. Intrigue, betrayal, irony. Bizarre characters, the "west", the sun, big zooms on the faces. A main character, completely unknown who arrives in a lost city in Arizona. And above all, Morricone's music. I know that Stone asked him specificly to do a "spaghetti western" music. Anybobody seen it? If so, what do you think about it?
