Off-Topic Discussion / L'Armata Brancaleone
« on: January 19, 2007, 01:10:19 PM »
Can't believe nobody mentioned it in this board. It's my favorite comedy! It's a 1966 Italian movie directed by Mario Monicelli, and in the cast you'll find no more no less than Gian Maria Volonté!

L'Armata Brancaleone is a story about a band of rogues led by medieval 'knight' Brancaleone da Norcia (played by Vittorio Gassman) on their quest to find the city of Aurocastro. Along the way they have a series of misfortunes, like rescuing a damsel in ditress, a city infested with the plague, and a Bizantine knight who crosses their path.

If you missed on this, go watch it immediately. It's a must see! O0

General Discussion / Only in the Past?
« on: September 30, 2006, 05:25:46 PM »
I don't know if someone has ever thought of it, but... have you noticed that Leone's movies are always set in the past?

Just think with me: His first movies were set in ancient Rome. Then, AFOD came and he moved to the Old West. This continued during FAFDM, TGTBATU and OUATITW. On DYS he advanced a few years to the Mexican Revolution. Finally, on OUATITA, he made his most modern movie. Come to think of it, had he made the movie in 1968 like he wanted to, he would have made at least 1 movie set in the present. And, had he lived some years more, he would have given us another movie in the past, this time in the 2ND World War.

Not to say the movies are bad, far from it, his movies are the best ones ever made, but does anyone have a clue of why all his movies were in the past? Would he ever have made a movie in the present? And if so, what would it talk about? ???

A Fistful of Dollars / A question
« on: August 25, 2006, 03:47:39 PM »
We all know that Joe's gun was a Colt Single Action Army, Colt.45 as he likes to say, right?

Then why is he holding a Colt Army in the movie cover? ???

Well the poll has many options that talk by themselves, so please post your thoughts.

I say Frank.

General Discussion / The good always wins
« on: May 08, 2006, 06:33:53 PM »
Just look:

-Fistful of Dollars: Joe is the good. Joe wins.
-For a Few Dollars More:Monco and Mortimer are the good. Monco and Mortimer win.
-The Good, the Bad and the Ugly:Blondie is the Good, literally. Blondie wins.
-Once upon a Time in the West:Harmonica is the good. Harmonica wins.
-My Name is Nobody (I consider it a Leone movie):Nobody and Jack are the good. Nobody and Jack win.
-Once upon a Time in America:Noodles is the good. Wait, is he? Forget it... Anyway he wins.

The only exception is Duck you Sucker. John is the good. John loses.

I know Leone's goods aren't particularly good but they are far above from the bads. But I'm just posting this because once I saw someone saying that Leone challenged the Hollywood good/bad white hat/black hat standards by not always making the good win, which isn't true.

Duck, You Sucker / Question

Why do some of you call John Mallory "Sean"?

First, I'd say it is "Shawn", and second to me it's quite obvious that Shawn is his friend in Ireland.

I like the Cheyenne's theme most. It's happy and jolly to contrast the harshness of the movie (I guess).

And yours?

For a Few Dollars More / The body of Groggy
« on: April 01, 2006, 07:09:11 PM »
After Monco says 27, he turns around and shoots Groggy. All right 'til now.

And then after Monco says It's all right now, he picks up his body to put it on the cart.

But wait- his body was at the distance of quite some feet from the cart and yet Monco shot and picked up without leaving his place!

A goof? Or my misunderstanding of the scene?

...cap and ball revolvers and metal cartridge revolvers?

I'm ignorant about guns so if someone smart about it could tell me I'd thank.

(And, is this the right forum to ask it?)

...Indio managed to win the gunfight? What would be Monco's reaction to Mortimer's death?
