I just discovered this Spanish version of DYS on youtube. Crappy quality for sure but has some interesting features: Running 2:16 minutes (in PAL, would be about 2:21 in 24p) this cut seems like some sort of the hybrid between the United Artists cut version and the Italian version. All the cuts correspond to cuts made in the the UA version, most notably the shortening of Juan's seduction of the aristocratic woman, the night scene by the church, dialogue from Dr. Villega referencing "foreign capitalists", Juan's "how to get fucked!" line and the second-to-last flashback which is missing the long "moment" shared by John and his friend before he shoots him (the editing of the music is a complete mess in this scene). Surprisingly, the entire final flashback has been restored to this version (with the original music too!). Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpPIPVX1dK4

Does anyone know whether the 175 minute cut was the cut released in Italy in 1968 or was it a cut cobbled together later on, perhaps for a re-release or just the DVD of the movie? I've always been a bit confused about this subject.

Since I'm currently dissatisfied with the current US and UK versions of TGTB&TU I've decided to go for an Italian release of the film, given that the Italians have treated it with more respect. Now I understand that there are several DVD releases out there from Italy, but I want to know which contains the longest version, and best image quality. If any of you know which edition(s) I'm looking for please post here an image, or link, to the release. I plan to master my own DVD soon.

MGM have been total wankers in releasing their movies to DVD, there's always something wrong with their DVDs, and Leone's westerns are no exception. The video quality of the old GBU disc was washed out, with a greenish-gold tint, while the SE has an awful reddish-pink tint and noticeably zoomed in!
The 5.1 remixed English soundtrack is literally unlistenable and guess what, no English mono available so the DVD is quite useless! They also only have the option of the restored 179 minute cut (not even the full cut of the film, since it is still missing shots from the beating scene and the original intermission) and don't give a shred of thought to the fact that many people prefer the classic 161 minute cut of the film because of it's faster pace.
A perfect DVD of the film would, of course, offer the film in both 161 minute and the full Italian version (running about 186 minutes), with original mono mixes.

To any of you that have the region 1 DVD, does the mono mix have the correct flashback and end title music, or is it just a folded mix of the incorrect 5.1 mix? I'd like some feedback on it before I buy a copy.

I love the final cue in the film where the operatic voice joins the main theme, but I don't know what the title of it is or even if it is on the soundtrack. Can you enlighten me please?

Come up with some title that could fit the film, and is better than Duck You Sucker, Fistful of Dynamite or Once Upon a Time... The Revolution.
My suggestion: Count Me Out! (Reflecting Rod Steiger's attitute towards the revolution)

It is completely different from Claudia Cardinale's voice, it sounds differently (and worse) recorded than all other voices in the film, and is also worse dubbed (especially "Used it one at the time or all together?" line). I'm for someone more appropriate redub her in the same quality as the rest of the film.

I've read that an intermission was originally placed at the point after the dehidrated Blondie spills the coffee on Tuco's face and says something like "It's nice to know my good friend is watching over me." but the restored edition does not include the intermission. I think it should be included if it was part of the premiere version. Does anyone know if the Italian disc has it?

I just thought it would be fun to reconstruct missing scenes from the film using stills like someone did of the Cannon scene on the TGTB&TU board.
We could start trying to find stills from the lost desert walk scene that would have segued into the church scene...

This is my idea of a perfect TGTB&TU edition:
Disc 1: The international export cut running 160 minutes (since this is the version first released in all countries outside of Italy and personally supervised by Leone this should be given the same respect as the longer cut)
Include all languages the film was ever dubbed in (original mixes of course), title cards and character intros for all languages they were ever created for.
Disc 2: The Italian premiere cut running 180 minutes
Include both Italian original mix as well as remastered, and the mixes created by MGM in 2003 (preferrably remastered with the original sound effects though) and music only track in remastered 5.1 . Include the international title cards as well.
Disc 3: Bonus material
Will include everything that is on the current MGM SE + The original US trailer (the one that switched The Bad and the Ugly).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN6OtZJsRcYJust found this trailer for this early 70s Italian shocker What Havy You Done to Solange. I've heard the film is pretty graphic and judging by the trailer it most certainly is... But check out that Morricone music in the background, just beautiful and very inappropriate too considering it is the main theme handling about a mad rapist/murderer.

On this message board, I've often wanted to put captures from movies up to support my comments but I don't know how to post an image. How does one accomplish this?
