General Discussion / Dinner with Leone (on DVD at least)
« on: August 19, 2004, 06:14:35 PM »
I'm having a spaghetti western night with a group of friends. My plan is to cook up some spaghetti, meat balls, sausage and good wine for my buddies who aren't familiar with good Italian-American cuisine.

A silly question but...what would the esteemed members of this group serve at such a meal? By the way, the film we will be watching will be The Good the bad and the ugly.

Perhaps something like the stew that Angel Eyes wolfs down in his opening scene?

Other Films / My Darling Clementine (1946)

What a beautiful work! A young Henry Fonda, Victor Mature, Ward Bond, Walter Brennan chewing up scenery, a young John Ireland and dear God, the camera work!

What do you all think about this film? John Ford films?

Speaking of Ford, there's a good Leone connection to Ford's "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," which has Lee Van Cleef and Woody Strode in the cast.

General Discussion / Women don't like Leone, or Westerns?
« on: August 05, 2004, 05:28:54 PM »
I have never been with a woman who liked Leone. Girlfriends, a wife, more girlfriends (to her credit, one of them did like him) and another wife. These women had discerning tastes in literature and film, but they were no-go on Leone. In my experience many women don't like westerns either (although my wife loves HBO's Deadwood, making her the first woman in my life to like a western)

What do you folks think? I'm new to these boards and am sure there are women here who like Leone?

Hope I didn't start a controversy.

General Discussion / Reading Leone?
« on: August 05, 2004, 05:21:16 PM »
Can any of you very smart people recommend a good book about Leone and his films? The Frayling book, Something to do with Death, seems to be well-received. Any thoughts?

On a different note...Does anyone know of Leone scripts in print? Either in Italian or English.

Grazie,

Once Upon A Time In The West / Who killed Cheyenne?
« on: August 03, 2004, 04:34:52 AM »
I know this is probably quite obvious, but through lack of good hearing and my tv's poor sound quality I missed the answer. Who dealt the Cheyenne the fatal gunshot?

Thanks
