Duck, You Sucker / Re: greatest explosion ever!!!!
« on: August 29, 2005, 10:19:03 AM »
Man, I haven't been here in ages.

Seeing Leon try to take on that theme from FoD inspired me to try myself. I've been using MIDI as a hobby for about ten years now.

Go to  http://www.geocities.com/squaretex.geo/fod.html, and right-click-save-as the link that says "Here ya go". :)

I can't promise it'll be in the right key, or if the chords are spot-on, since I haven't seen this movie in a long time. (And if MGM/Sony would get on with it and release the R1 DVD already, I wouldn't have this problem!) But I think it turned out pretty well considering.

And since it's only about 15-20 minutes worth of work (I don't play piano yet, so I have to enter these notes by hand on the "staff paper"), it's more of a teaser than anything.

Once Upon A Time In The West / Re:U.S. DVD

Got mine yesterday! ;D

I watched the bonus features last night. However, I have a prior commitment this evening, so it'll be tomorrow before I can enjoy the film.

But at least it's here!

With regards to the custom pistol, it wouldn't surprise me if, after escaping, Tuco went and robbed ANOTHER storekeeper...and thus built a brand-new pistol.  :)

Of course, it's only a guess...  ;D

Once Upon A Time In The West / Why not? *votes*

When I last saw it, OUATITW was in the lead, but barely. There's a four-way battle going on!!! :D

General Discussion / Charles Bronson will indeed be missed...
« on: September 02, 2003, 09:35:25 AM »
There will be a bittersweet moment when "Once Upon a Time in the West" is released on American DVD this November. But let's thank Mr. Bronson for being one of the reasons that movie worked so well.

Thanks for that advice.

But before I check out that "Prague Philharmonic" version...is that "whew good" or "whew bad"?  ;)

I wish I had seen this thread before I posted in the "Main Music Team" one! :D You can find my thoughts there.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / If I may deviate a moment...
« on: August 19, 2003, 12:37:07 PM »
Long before I saw any of Leone's films (I started watching them in college during the mid-90s), my parents found an LP of the music from the first three films. But it wasn't the original music...it was all-new arrangements by Hugo Montenegro.

It was a fun listen, but after seeing the films, I was surprised how much was changed. Hugo's work was more of a "popular music" flavor...in fact, his rendition of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" was released as a single. Now, let me clarify what I mean by "popular music": it was still an orchestra (Mr. Montegro's own, for that matter), but the music was presented as self-contained songs...and often with a great beat. ;)

It's still a great album to listen to for nostalgia's sake, but in the end I prefer Ennio Morricone's originals.

Once Upon A Time In The West / Re:OUATITW PRE-ORDER

Thanks for the link!

Needless to say, I've already placed MY preorder... ;D

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re:cigar in Tucos' mouth
« on: March 07, 2003, 09:00:16 AM »
I was under the impression that Tuco wasn't spitting out the cigar, but making a customary(?) "spit of disgust." Other examples of this include FoD's Silvanito spitting after Joe decides to look for a job with the Rojos...just when he had told him about Ramon's ways. Another, in FaFDM, was Prophet's reaction to trains. :)

So IMHO, I think the spitting and cigar are unrelated.

Once Upon A Time In The West / Re:leone breaks a classic western rule...

And this is why I'm going crazy over wanting DVD releases of those two movies, "...West" in particular. I've never had the misfortune of seeing the cut version, and since I found the restored pan&scan quite palatable, the letterboxed version would be wonderful!

Paramount, what's keeping you?!?  :'(

Once Upon A Time In The West / Re:Final Duel Scene

Doubtful. And since the old board had turned into a mudslinging contest, there wasn't a lot worth looking for, anyway.

General Discussion / Pretty cool!

I certainly like the Flash layout of it all. :)

The only problem I have is that viewing the large images requires a certain obscure plugin, and the site that provided it is kaput. :(

Anyone else know about this plugin?

General Discussion / Re:Countries of Origin
« on: January 08, 2003, 10:24:41 AM »
I would say that living in Texas for most of my life has made me quite open to his films.

Ranking them, however, is the hard part.

First, I have to exclude Once Upon a Time in America, as I have yet to see it. :(

But then, I guess it would be like this:

1. Once Upon a Time in the West
2. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
3. A Fistful of Dynamite/Duck, you Sucker
4. For a Few Dollars More
5. A Fistful of Dollars

My brother and I watched FaFDM the other night, and we both ended up agreeing that it is better than FoD. Sure, the first has the nostalgia value, but I find FDM to have the better story and presentation. Also, it seems to have an especially eerie quality to it which I find appealing.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re:Tuco can't take a joke
« on: November 26, 2002, 08:23:40 AM »
Well, Blondie didn't split the cash that one time. He told Tuco, "I'll keep the money...and you can have the rope." Not necessarily an even trade, if you ask me. ;)
