Sergio Leone News / Hey, check this out
« on: September 17, 2007, 12:59:16 PM »
Hey everyone, I'm new here, so just wanna introduce myself..

So yeah, I found this the other day and thought it was worth sharing with everyone. It's a section of the Ennio Morricone interview in the book 'Sergio Leone: Once Upon A Time In Italy', and I think Morricone says some very interesting and touching things about Leone. Enjoy!

Were you both surprised by the success of the first fim, 'A Fistful of Dollars'?
We were both surprised. Sergio, as well. As I told you, we returned to the Quirinale Cinema, where the film was still on its first run, a year later. And we both came out thinking we could have done it much better. That was a lesson in modesty, to see it again after one year. This desire for perfection, born of the re-viewing of that film, those words we spoke to each other outside the cinema, remained with us to the end. Sergio and I always wanted to improved the quality our of work- with application, with love, even with our quarrels, sometimes stormy, but always friendly- in our search for the best. That's what I remember about Sergio. Always the wish to become better. If he had made the film he was planning to make, after the beauty of Once Upon a Time in America, I do wonder what he could have achieved- this extraordinary friend and film director.
