Groggy, you gotta catch all of STALAG 17. It's terrific! Holden steals it but PETER GRAVES (Five Man Army, Mission Impossible tv series) gives a career best performance. Can't rate this movie high enough. The way it is shot and the ensemble playing moves like a night at live theatre! Grab a copy!

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Just saw a little William Holden perspective« on: August 30, 2005, 01:32:38 PM »TCM did a little William Holden day this past Sunday saw a couple of good films, two cavalry pieces "Escape From Fort Bravo" (1953) and the "Horse Soldiers" (1959 both were pretty good films both dealing with the Civil War, the former even had a prison camp band (CSA) like GBU.I think Holden was a terrific screen presence. I can't get enough of his westerns. Alongside THE WILD BUNCH; I have always enjoyed, RACHEL AND THE STRANGER , THE MAN FROM COLORADO (both1948); WILD ROVERS (1971) to name but a few! And indeed, the ones you mention above. 4
Off-Topic Discussion / Re: F.W. Murnau!« on: August 28, 2005, 05:35:03 PM »Faust is in some ways like a 1920s Matrix - showcasing all the special effects of the age. Although it's also a lot more intelligent than that - some brilliant use of lighting, lots of the startling imagery you'd associate with the German Expressionist period.Nice review, redyed! Congrats on the 500th! Looking forward to the next 500. ![]() 5

Good point(s). The same could apply to EASTWOOD as in; Young people I meet and talk to about SW's and EASTWOOD; mostly they will /would say he act's from the neck up and the cigar he chews on is the only attempt he makes at character study! It's all relative and the actor is in the eye of the beholder! Different generations have different screen heroes and I'm just thankful I'm old enough to have seen Clint and Burt in thier first throes and am not waiting for CRUISE or PITT'S next release!
