1  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Belkin what happend to you... on: December 18, 2005, 05:12:14 PM

I thought I was the only Irish person who liked Leone Westerns. I'm glad I was wrong.
2  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Worst film with a Morricone Score on: December 18, 2005, 05:09:31 PM

Didn't Morricone score that religious film about the Irish Cardinal ... what was it again ... The Scarlet and the Black? Well, Morricone is great, but the soundtrack on that film was not what I expected. Granted, I did watch it on a laptop computer with pretty bad speakers, but I thought the score was just too sharp, too extreme, and not well matched to the movie at all.
3  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Let's put together a Spaghetti Western Script! on: December 18, 2005, 05:03:30 PM

We should write a script right here, just for the fun. Someone should give the basic story outline, then we each contribute a few lines, and see where we get.

Who's with me?

Don't worry, I'm a patient man. Cheers!
5  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Godfather Part III: Such A Shame on: December 18, 2005, 04:46:07 PM

I agree about the "illogy" thing.

Many great trilogies were let down by a poor third act.

While I cannot think of any notable examples off the top of my head, I suppose "Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines" was not very well accepted by fans of the first two. Ditto "Back to the Future Part III".

If I can think of a better example I will. My mind's just blank today.
6  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Expedition Blog on: December 18, 2005, 04:27:43 PM

It may be too late to include me in the posse, but if you are anyway inclined to use me:

- call me "Fingers" McGuirk, outlaw, gunslinger, strong enough to crush a man's skull with my deformed hand

- feel free to have my arm blown off (the bad one with the hand brace for aforementioned deformed hand), but don't kill me for at least two chapters.

Other than that, keep up the excellent work.

7  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: I Need Volunteers For An Expedition To Mexico on: December 18, 2005, 04:09:47 PM

An Invasion of Mexico!

First the following questions:

Are you an equal opportunities employer? Is there a dental plan? Will badges be supplied?

What the hell, count me in. I can shoot, I can ride, and I don't eat much. See you at the rendevous North of the Border at noon.

Oh, wait ... I live in Ireland.

That made my day. Well done!
9  Films of Sergio Leone / Other Films / Re: Hang 'Em High (1968) on: December 18, 2005, 04:01:04 PM

I was disappointed by Hang 'Em High.

The problem is, I dunno why. It's just not memorable. there was a hanging (unsuccessful), Eastwood was out for revenge, the rest I just can't remember. It was poor to my eyes, so most of it escapes me too.
10  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Rocky 6 on: December 18, 2005, 03:54:09 PM

Gee, this must be the Year of the remakes/sequels. They're doing another Die Hard, they're doing another Rocky, they're doing another Rambo. What next? reshooting GBU?!

I suppose they'll just be throwing 'em on the pile with King Kong, Lost In Space, Starsky & Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard, Mr. Magoo, and the possible A-Team remake. Not to mention all the Jaws sequels, etc.

Man, would Hollywood ever do something original again?

Still, Stallone says he's in better shape now than he was in the first Rocky. If that's true, it should be good. What they need is a good story, not just another fight...
11  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Guilty Secrets: Films You like That You Shouldn't on: December 18, 2005, 03:46:42 PM

Films that I like even though I shouldn't.

Well, usually, I'd go for something thought-provking, moving, detailed, sometimes a large scale epic, sometimes a small, character driven movie. In all, entertaining, intelligent films.

But my secret shame was when I turned on the TV and saw ... (this is so embarassing) ... South Park: Bigger, Better and Uncut. Badly animated eight-year olds going around swearing their heads off! I'm not supposed to find this crude humor funny - but I did.

What's wrong with me, and are there any pills that can help?
12  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: How far do they walk on: November 25, 2005, 06:29:32 AM

Let's examine the scene:

"Way back to town is only 70 miles. If you hold your breath I think a man like you could manage it." (or words to that effect).

We can assume that it's 70 miles to the town they ran away from after the hanging scam. For all we know, it's only 20 miles back to another town, one with the gunstore.

So, I draw to conclusions: 1. Tuco walked the shorter distance to another town, or was just a reallt quick walker...
13  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: Angel eyes bad poker player ! on: November 25, 2005, 06:23:32 AM

Are you guys suggesting that Angel Eyes kills Blondie and Tuco just as he comes up behind them in the graveyrad?

Hmmm ... Tuco would be no problem, but as for shooting Blondie in the back, what if his hand waivered "and he's only been hurt?" (To quote one of the Rojos.)

Besides, if I was as confident as Angel Eyes, I'd take my chances in a quick shoot-out than to spend weeks looking for gold that might not even be there. He wants other people to do his work...
14  General Information / General Discussion / Re: the Hawaiian pizza on: November 14, 2005, 02:57:17 PM

Getting back on topic:

When I was a kid, they were showing Fistful of Dollars on TV late one night. The kind of thing used to fill in the ghost hours of terrestrial television, with commercial breaks every fifteen minutes or so. I missed the first few moments, then saw a load of guys in coyboy hats. "Just another stupid western," I thought. Then Clint did hids mule speech, which was kinda funny. Then he killed the four of them in an instant. By the time he said "My mistake -- four coffins", I was hooked.

I taped the rest of the movie on an early VCR or something, and then FAFDM the next week. By the time of GBU the week after that, I could see that these were clearly a cut above other westerns. I was a full blown fan...

I still have those old tapes; classic movies intercut with commercials for deoderant and Budweiser. Well, I just wished that they had put them on at a more respectable time. Was I ever tired for school the next morning!
15  General Information / General Discussion / Re: the good the bad and the ugly animation on: November 14, 2005, 02:44:44 PM

I'm surprised by the scarcety of good quality pictures.

You may have to base some of your animation on memory.
