1  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: Tuco's half smile on: July 03, 2009, 02:30:36 AM
No, I don't think Tuco is trying to get Angel Eyes on his side. To me that meaningful glance has the connotation of "Got you at last, my friend. Let's see who of us is the fastest." Don't forget that Tuco was beaten up by Angel Eyes quite severely.
2  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: Is my reaction to the film normal for a first timer? on: June 26, 2009, 02:07:29 AM
I first saw this film as a teenager in the cinema and was immediately blown away by the story, the characters and the music. There used to be re-reuns every summer, at least up to 1972. We had the soundtrack at home and regularly played and discussed our feelings about the music, often right after supper. We all thought Henry Fonda stole the film.

When Frank puts his gun back into its holster after shooting Wobbles at first he puts it back the wrong way, i.e. with the grip pointing forward. A fraction of a second later it slides into the holster in its natural position. Anyone else notic this?  Shocked

When Frank rides in to meet Harmonica the music sounds like a funeral march. We all know it is Frank's funeral, but someone who sees the movie for the first time might think Frank is bringing death for Harmonica.

Interestingly, the music used leading up to/during  the duel is "Come Una Sentenza" - the same bit used in the wake of the killing of the McBain family. A definite statement, I'd say.

Back in the early seventies when there was no video or dvd, we used to play the entire soundtrack album at home, speculating on this or that character's motivation etc. I have always been very fond of the percussion-dominated "l'Attentato". It made me and my sister experiment with our taperecorder; of course we had no real musical instruments, so we used pots and pans and pieces of cutlery. Really!  Cheesy

Magnificent pictures. A pity only the rudimentary shape of the arch is left, but I suppose we should be thankful for ANY remains, seeing as the place is so obviously visited by souvenir hunters.

This may have been discussed before, but from the second disk in the dvd set I learned that the Mc Bain farm is a tourist attraction nowadays. Any idea where it is located? Much obliged!
7  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: Did Cheyenne have alzheimer's? on: July 21, 2006, 01:24:52 PM
Recall that in the original, i.e. cut version the entire cantina scene was dropped. In the original film it would make sense for Cheyenne to assume Jill may not have seen Harmonica before. Jill and Cheyenne first come face to face (literally) when he stands on her doorstep -"Did you make coffee?"
8  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: Favourite moment on: July 21, 2006, 05:14:45 AM
Greetings from a newbie! I live in a small coastal resort called Ostend, in Belgium, Europe.

Two of my favourite scenes involve Frank:

1)

Morton:
"How does it feel sitting behind that desk, Frank?"

Frank:
"It's almost like holding a gun . . . only much more powerful [broad grin]"

2)

Right before Frank shoots Wobbles he lights a cigar and looks at his victim. Those steel blue eyes are almost like two guns in their own right . . .

Obviously, the scene where Timmy is shot gives me goosebumps every time I see it. That crashing power chord!
