Other Films / Re: The Great Silence aka Il grande silenzio (1968)

I was actually watching a programme a few years ago about Travis. And they were looking for a new song to go out on the stage to when they play live because they were sick of the song they were using. Then they were all in their tour bus and Fran Healy, the lead singer, said they had found one and they were playing it on the bus and it was Titoli from AFOD, and they were all doing the sound effects to the whips, etc. So maybe they are fans of Morricone, but i doubt it because their shit. At the time they looked like they had just stumbled upon this CD with the song on it because none of them seemed to know whne the whips and that came in, they were just acting like drunken idiots. But who knows.

The pianist is his best film by far i think, it's one of the greatest films ever made.

I didn't like chinatown, it was too hyped up for me.

The worst film i've ever seen at the cinema is Kill Bill vol 2

Even the flinstones i enjoyed more.

Theres been loads of shite films made, most of the spaghettis are up there, but one film that is just that crap its one of the funniest film you'll see, and thats Enter the Ninja with Django himself Franco Nero.

Now thats a bad film.

Its always on sky, i might watch it the next time it's on.

It's used in the first film and the vol 1 trailer

It's used when uma thurman confronts lucy lui in the sequence at the end just before she fights about 150 samurias

Does the region 1 dvd have the english language track with the old sound effect on it. I know it's got the new track on which is a disgrace, and the italian mono track. The new gun effect are a disgrace. I hope the mono track is not just in italian.

I cant believe people are actually saying this film is good. It is by far the worst film i have ever seen. He uses 5 pieces of morricones music. Why does he use the theme from fistful, all budd does is walk out of a caravan, it's proper crap. Thats one of my favourite pieces of morricones.
Navajo joe was used twice, too shortly at the end i thought. A professional gun was used but it just didn't go with the scene. Thats the master of leone he used music perfectly to suit a scene, tarantino just uses a piece he likes, poor judgement for me.
Then the good, the bad and the ugly piece was used quite nicely i thought.
The dialogue is boring and i was just totally bored shitless when bill meats the bride.
Nothing happend in the film for me, it could have been told in 30 minutes at the end of the first film.
I was totally appaled by the shitness of it. I didn't particuarly think vol 1 was fantastic but it was entertaining, this one was just dull and nothing happens in it apart from two short fights and strange dialogue. I've heard reviews where they have said Leone would be happy with the homage he recieves in this film. First off i didn't really see any good leone esque bits, couple of close ups but leone is miles better than a cliche in western film making. I think Leone would turn in his grave at this film.
Well just my opinion funny how people love it when i want to forget it as soon as possible, thats life for you.
I was looking forward to this as well, and the GBU DVD, both are crap, what a shit week, any way bye for now.
I hope someone else agrees with me, funny if they don't like, but i thought it was it was just, to be plain, dull and uniteresting. What a shame.

Sergio Leone News / GBU DVD SPECIAL EDTION
« on: April 24, 2004, 10:09:55 AM »
Got it today and they have ruined the greatest film ever made.
I don't know much about surround sound and dolby, to be honest i don't even care for all that shite, but the sound effects they have used for this is a fucking digrace. The gun shots sound like the menu screen from a fistful of dollars, it's absolutley shocking.
Even punches and stuff have been changed. I'm definately buying the R1 DVD now for the italian mono track, this r2 dvd is going straight on ebay.
As for the new scenes they don't intergrate well at all, you can tell eli wallach is about 906 years old. Clint doesn't even sound like clint, and lee van cleef's imitator sounds like soemone trying to be lee van cleef. I mean i wanted to see these scenes but i think they should either have been done superbly or just left as an extra on the dvd, like the extended tuco torture scene is, but in english obviously.
Overall i'm extremely dissapointed with the dvd. the extras are ok, but nothing special, i havent listened to the commentary yet, but i can't stand richard schickel anyway, i mean i didn't mind the ouatia commentary, it was crap but not too bad to listen, i hope this one is a little bit more interesting.
Just to make sure does anyone know for sure that the r1 dvd is the same as the r2 plus the mono italian track.
On the extras they actually mention why they changed the gun sounds, etc because they were too quite or something with the rest of the resteration, i'm just thinking maybe the italian mono track will be crap as well, who knows, i'm proper devastated me like, what have they done, bastards.

i forgot about the three in the hotel

But he kills three of angel eye's men, so it makes it 10 kills in all

the one who follows him, then 2 with tuco walking up the street

General Discussion / The man with no name paper back books
« on: February 26, 2004, 03:13:21 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has the paper back books of the dollars trilogy, based around the man with no name?

I have just got another book in the series called a coffin full of dollars and i'm reading it now, it's another adventure of the man with no name and you can picture clint in the film as you read it. There is another in the series called a dollar to die for.

I just wondered if anyone else has them, or if they had read them, they came out in the seventees, wonder if sergio ever had an idea to film one of the other two, it's good so far a coffin full of dollars, hope the ending is good.

The good, the bad and the ugly it has to be, it's the perfect film it has everything, apart form claudia cardinale, but ouatitw is not in the same league as g,b,& u.

Come on the good, the bad and the ugly.

It's funny how peoples tastes change, even to who's favourite leone film, because i would say ouatia is the second best, and ouatitw comes 5th behind the other dollars films, it's interesting though.

thats really good, any chance you could put the first three back online for a bit because i missed them, i understand if you can't.
It annoyes me though that with all these resources of interviews, etc, that a production company can't make a brilliant documentary for all languages, cheers anyway.
