Why, you wouldn't want to see a leone film in the best shape ever ? You can get HD players for 99 bucks these days.

So what is this bit in the commentary where Alex Cox goes nut over the continuity, suggesting they lost it ?

I think he drank too many pints before opening up.

The original poster was right, the DVD looks awful on any 42" or bigger display. That work was crappy. Brings on the Scorcese sponsored restoration in full HD, and with the correct colors, contrast, lights, and no edge enhancement please !

I was just watching the DVD on a HD screen, and it looked OK, but definetely not HD material. Colors, contrast, light are off from shot to shot, too much edge enhancement, and lots of aliasing unless you upscale the image. This version is in my opinion just crappy and Martin Scorcese needs to make sure the new version reflect the original film colors, an issue a definitive version on HD, possibly with the original theatrical cut as a seamless branching extra.

Wow, I'm sure LeoneNut is prepping the final cut already in his mind  Afro

I'm not forking out cash for a low resolution DVD anymore, I want full on uncut HD of the dollars trilogy. Why get these now ? They are all cuts in some ways also.

I don't want them mastered as currently, from internegatives or regular print copies. They are 4 generation removes from the original.

Leone movies should be redone in 4K from the original negatives, or interpositives if not available, nothing further is acceptable.

We're speaking movies that belongs to the general worlwide culture.

Also, I believe they should re-release the real GBU cut, not the bastardisation they have made. Ideally, a two disc set with both the general cut and the italian cut using seamless branching, with both soundtracks, should be done.

I'm a leone nut, but I'm really let done by the DVDs. None look correct to me.

Hi guys,

I'm a long time Leone fan, been lurking here for a while, decided to join.

It's funny, but I'm 100% sure that John Carpenter saw the original airing with this prologue added, and created the next year the screenplay for what was to become ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, starring Kurt Russel, with the very same basic premise (ie convict felon is given pardon if he accomplishes his mission).

Everyone knows Carpenter is a western adict, and that all his movies are westerns in modern settings. Makes sense.
