1  Films of Sergio Leone / Duck, You Sucker / Re: DYS soundtrack comparison on: December 07, 2014, 03:29:04 PM
Hopefully, the dead horse I'm flogging doesn't smell too bad at this point, but from what I understand, the old SE DVD had a downmix. Does the Italian Blu have the proper track? How about the new U.S. Blu? I know I should read the thread, I'm just too lazy to comb through it Wink.
2  Films of Sergio Leone / Duck, You Sucker / Re: Blu-ray to be released Dec 2013 on: December 01, 2014, 10:44:38 PM
Hopefully this is the right place to ask this, I didn't want to start a whole new thread, and I apologize if I irritate people. I've been doing a bit of research about which Leone releases to buy on Blu-ray, and I'm still hazy on some details. What I've basically gleaned is this: for GBU, Fox have finally fixed the foul-up with the mono on the new single release (While it shouldn't have happened in the first place, kudos to them for doing so!), so outside of the controversy about the color, it sounds like a safe bet since apparently no one thinks to ever restore the theatrical cut. Though the omission of the Italian audio is immensely annoying. For FOD, there was a 4K restoration which premiered at Cannes this year for the 50th anniversary, which may find its way to video at some point (It apparently "depressed" Quentin Tarantino since it wasn't 35mm  Roll Eyes.) In the interim period, it sounds like the US releases are foul-up downmixes and my best bet is either the German or Italian release (Apparently one has lossless audio, the other doesn't.). For AFDM, it sounds like the German release is the best at present, maybe it'll get a restoration someday. The odd man out is DYS. Is the US release a downmix too? I've heard conflicting things. If it is, what's my best bet? Is the Italian release the proper mono, if it even included the English track? I guess I'm fine with the US release of OUATITW, I understand that actually wasn't messed up. I would like all of the extras too, those Frayling commentaries are gold, but could just get the anthology boxed set for those, probably used, for a pittance. Thanks to any answers.
3  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: Remastered version by 20th Century Fox coming in 2014 on: June 14, 2014, 10:19:14 AM
The lack of the mono is still a major dealbraker for me Sad. Evidently, outside of the old SD DVD theatrical version, there's never been a version of this with the original mono. The downmix is almost more insulting than not including it at all. How foolish does Fox think that fans are? The definitive movie of the whole genre, and no proper release? What a crushing disappointment. It's the Drunken Master II of Spaghetti Westerns. Sigh.

Still controversy.  Damn your eyes, MGM!  What's this I hear about problems with DYS?   Missing scenes?  Incorrect cues?

The word at the moment is Yes.

If so then good; I'm just hoping that someone who gets their hands on the discs can say for certain  Wink!

Do the movies have the original mono tracks?

Took the words right out of my mouth.  Do they?  Please....

Let's hope that this is true.  Looks like TGHBATD will never see what it deserves  Angry.  Thanks.  Please God, let this be true!

What the heck is up with OUATITW?  Is the 10 buck disc the same as the old two DVD set, or must  I track the old one down?
12  General Information / General Discussion / DVD question on: May 24, 2007, 09:58:00 PM
As the new DVDs of the Dollars trilogy and Duck You Sucker will not contain the original mono, are there any discs that do?
