1  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Magnolia on: April 17, 2003, 02:50:16 AM
This is up there with Once Upon a Time in the West as one of my favorite movies. Very emotional and even more operatic than OUTW. "Operatic Ecstacy" as Roger Ebert put it.

Anybody like Radiohead here? Some of their music seems to be inspried by Morricone.

Kid A is my favorite, by the way.

Was there a reference to Sweetwater in Firecreek with Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda? I remember there being something in that movie that might have been referenced in OUATITW. I might be wrong, though.

I was the one who mentioned the four hour version of OUATITW and I`m relying on information that I read in the Video Watchdog magazine. According to Tim Lucas, Paramount unearthed a four hour print in bad condition sometime around 1996 (not sure of the year). In the documentary "Once upon a time - Sergio Leone", James Woods speaks about this version and he says that during the wrap party of OUATIA, Leone showed the four hour cut. He claims that it blows all other versions away. Guess weŽll just have to wait and see what version will end up on the SE DVD. Keep your fingers crossed  Smiley

I'm rather envious of James Woods now.

Been seeing OUTW today. The scene of Jill's arrival at Sweetwater, by train. With Morricone's music in background, Jill enters to the station and talks to a guard, and then the camera goes up, above the roof and shows us the rest of the village.

Have you noticed that Robert Zemeckis did the same thing for Back to the future III, the "western" one? (and I don't even talk about the fact that Michael J. Fox calls himself "Clint Eastwood" and that he wears his poncho).

I noticed it the last time it was on TV. Brought a smile to my face.

Maybe we're not supposed to know. It's like the "Just" video by Radiohead.

Great, I'll have to tape it. Again.

Edit: Because you can never have too many copies of it in letterbox on tape.
