1  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: If given the choice, would you want to be a part of Angel Eye's gang or... on: June 03, 2013, 12:25:52 AM
That was one huge absence by the way, Jane?

Well, let's just say that I've had a lot going on in my life - nothing seriously bad or anything except that my father passed on and there's been other issues I've had to deal with - and still am dealing with: on the job hunt, for one.  Besides, I don't make it my it my life to be on message boards 24/7.  I don't mean that offensively, but there is no rule or law that states you have to be on internet message boards every hour of every day.  I just chose to drop by and see what's new and what discussions are happening here - that's all.

would you rather team up with Tuco and Blondie and why?
3  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: Besides LVC, how many other actors from GBU... on: January 29, 2009, 01:00:01 AM
FC is talking about Aldo Sambrell, not Aldo Giuffre.

Ok - my apologies.   I obviously got confused there, considering we're talking about two actors with the same first name here - lol.  Sorry.   Undecided   Wink
4  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Aldo Giuffre (the drunk captain): a fun 'fill in the blanks' site. on: January 28, 2009, 10:40:43 PM
I found this link with a blank bio of Aldo Giuffre on it.   I thought it would be fun to see how much information you can find about him to insert in the blank spaces.   Since he was mentioned on another thread (Besides LVC, what other actors...), I thought I would continue it with this new topic regarding his bio.  Unfortunately, there's nothing on the site about him, so here's your chance to see what you can find out and then go there and fill in the blanks.   Knowing that he did play a great role in GBU, but isn't mentioned too often, I  thought that this would be a great thread about him - knock yourselves out - lol.

5  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: Bill-O wrong again. on: January 28, 2009, 10:55:23 AM
Yes, he was.   That's why I was quite stumped when FC said Bill O' was wrong, saying Eli played 'the ugly' in the movie 'cause I could have swore myself that he WAS 'the ugly'.  Now that you corrected him on that, DJ,  I KNOW I wasn't going crazy - lol.  Grin  Blondie was 'the good', AE was 'the bad' and Tuco was 'the ugly'.

Well it would be nice to have FC clarify this claim. Given how small his roles are in most of his films it would surprise me.

Yes, I totally agree.   I'm actually surprised that most of his roles ARE small, considering I think he's wonderful actor - played the role of the drunk captain very well.  The scene where he's brought back to the fort, wounded, then soon after dies, was a heart-breaking scene, to me.   He plays the role so well that he portrays the type of guy you can quickly warm up to and take a liking to very quickly, you know?    I was saddened to see him die in the war in the movie -  Cry  he was a likeable guy.

I don't see how Aldo could have been stealing money from his colleagues, if that IS who you're referring to.    Kinda hard to believe that he'd even do something like that, if it's possible to do that in the first place.

Thanks for posting that, Groggy!   I was shocked to read that Aldo didn't speak a lick of English and so, didn't understand a word Eastwood said - very interesting!   By watching his lips, it looks like he IS speaking English, but then again, it may be a camera adjustment or some kind of effect that makes it appear that he's speaking English, eh?

Thanks again for posting the link to that thread - appreciate it!   Afro

Wow - interesting!  I wish I had known about the interview!  I would have made it a point to see it, had I known.   Thanks for letting me know about it - appreciate it!  Had you not said something about it, I wouldn't have known he even did one - thanks!   Afro

Note:   I just checked on YouTube and couldn't find the interview with him on there, so the search goes on.....

Yes, I agree - that line is a great, memorable one, too -  Afro

I also like the scene in the monastery where Tuco is asking Blondie, "Tell me?  Tell me?, then Blondie asks Tuco to "Come closer".  Tuco thinks Blondie is going to tell him where the gold is (but we all know Blondie's much smarter than that; Tuco can't fool him), getting all excited, then gets coffee thrown in his face - VERY funny scene indeed - cracks me up all the time -  Grin Afro

Most of you are too young to have experienced GBU first run at the theaters in late 1960s - how the audience roared and howled at those lines, the jokes.  Every one of the jokes, every one, none missed the mark.  Nowadays, even if you are blessed enough to see GBU at a theater (like I did April 2008), most in the audience have seen it many times, so one doesn't get that first-time audience reaction.

That's very true, Cusser.   Considering how many times it's been shown on tv, not to mention all the copies that have been sold on VHS, DVD, etc. over the years, people have 'gotten used to' the jokes and the funny lines and scenes, so no one today would react the way an audience would if viewing it for the first time.  I, myself, can say that, every time I see it, I can't help but laugh, NO matter HOW many times I see it - STILL funny to me!

Thanks, CJ and Cusser!  I totally forgot about Santa Ana, Alburquerque and El Paso - geeez - where's my mind when I need it??  Grin

Does anyone know if Aldo Guiffre is still with us?  I think I spelled his last name correctly, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.  He played the drunk captain in GBU - not sure if he's still living.   If anyone knows, I'd be grateful to you for the info.   He is (or was) a great actor and I loved his performance in GBU - did a superb job at that role, as ALL the actors in that movie did with their roles!

Thanks in advance.

are named/mentioned in the GBU?  The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Andersonville (AE confronts the commandante at the prison camp).  Places like Sad Hill Cemetery are excluded from this question because I'm only asking about names of towns.  If Andersonville IS the only named town in the whole movie, why weren't the other towns given names, such as the one that Tuco ends up in after his long walk across the desert and walks into a gunshop?   I'm just curious as to why SE didn't name the towns, unless it's because Blondie, Tuco and AE didn't stay long in any one place.   This is just a 'thought to ponder' question - lol.
