1  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Re: US 139 minute version on: January 29, 2007, 07:19:31 AM
You're right. It was butchered (is that a verb?).
2  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Dollars Trilogy vs. Once Upon A Time trilogy on: January 29, 2007, 06:48:21 AM
I think if you judge them as trilogies, the dollars trilogy is definitely better, even though OUATITW is the greatest single film out of them. So, from the best to the least good, my list is as follows.

OUATITW > GBU > FAFDM > FOD > DYS > OUATIA

And yes, DYS should be in the list, because it, too, belongs to that loose sort-of-a trilogy with OUATITW and OUATIA. DYS was originally named "Once Upon A Time The Revolution".

BTW How do you say BRAVO in Italian Huh

'Bravo'. Or 'brava' if you're talking to a woman.
4  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: 40 years ago today 12-23-1966 on: January 23, 2007, 11:38:00 AM
Sorry, this is the thread celebrating the 40th anniversary of BBC. GBU's 40th isn't for a while yet. According to Frayling, the U.S. premier was January 1968. Did the English language version play anywhere else (like in the UK) earlier than that?

GBU's 40th was 12-23-06, because that was 40 years from when it premiered in Italy. That's when it was originally released, so that's the date we should all celebrate and cherish. Nothing else.

So Happy B-day GBU from me too.  Tongue
5  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: GBU Spoofs In Popular Culture on: January 23, 2007, 11:29:59 AM

Starts humming the what?

I think he meant the final trio shootout.
6  Films of Sergio Leone / Other Films / Re: Eastwoods worst western? on: January 23, 2007, 11:23:32 AM
From the ones that I've seen, I'd say Hang 'Em High is Clint's worst western.
7  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: The ubiquitous GBU sound... on: January 23, 2007, 11:18:31 AM
I would have to say no. I think the GBU theme is used far, far more than Rocky theme, or any other movie theme, for that matter.

And thank you Cusser for telling us all those GBU uses!  Smiley
8  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Re: US 139 minute version on: January 22, 2007, 10:07:44 AM
What could you be referring to? The restored English-language version of the film simply follows the Italian cut (except for the extra Gotto sequence). There is no "jimmy-rigging" involved (unless you're talking about the dubbing . . .)

Absolutely: the restored version is great (even dubbing). And even the Grotto sequence was in the Roman premiere (but was cut from the later Italian release version).
9  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Re: Jill's Theme or Deborah's Theme? Which is better? on: January 22, 2007, 09:56:56 AM
I would choose Jill's theme. No doubt about it. It's flawless.
10  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Re: Did James do it or not? on: January 22, 2007, 09:33:34 AM
Couple things.   The first time we meet Max, he is driving a "garbage" wagon, or at least a junk wagon.  The last time we see him he is diving into the back of one.  He has gone from the front to the back during his life.

The other idea we see a few times is that he's always making Noodles believe he is dead.   Is the last dive into the truck just another trick?

Very good points! That idea of Max goes from the front to the back, from honesty/friendship/happiness to dishonesty/"friendshipless"/sadness is very interesting.

And yes, the viewer is left wondering whether the jumpi into the truck is yet another fake death.
11  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Your favorite lines of a Leone film? on: January 22, 2007, 08:20:18 AM
My favourite lines of SL films? There are so many...

Well, if I had to choose, I'd pick "When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk."

But there are SO many others...
12  General Information / General Discussion / Re: Morricone concert in New York City CANCELLED on: January 22, 2007, 08:12:24 AM
So, did Firecracker's little joke crack everybody?  Smiley

I wonder what the blood pressure of those who planned a EM fan meeting at NY was when they 1) read the topic 2) found out that Firecracker was just cracking wise... Grin
13  General Information / General Discussion / Happy New Year! on: December 31, 2006, 02:25:18 PM
Happy New Year to all Sergio Leone fans!!!

May the new year be better than the one before it.
14  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: Their has never been a more beautiful film, period. on: December 30, 2006, 03:39:04 PM
I'm new here! Just thought I'd post on the board of the greatest movie ever made in my opinion. It's so nice to come to a board dedicated to my favorite director of all time, and chat among his fellow fans. Once Upon a Time In The West is the most compelling movie I've ever laid eyes on. I never get sick of it. The movie takes you in and never lets you go. The acting, the music, the beautiful cinematography is absolutely genius. Thank God Sergio gave us this masterpiece!  Grin

My sentiments exactly.
15  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: Anyone Know How To Play Harmonica? on: December 30, 2006, 03:12:53 PM
I got a harmonca for my Christmas and was wandering does anyone knows how to play the music from this film?

 Smiley

Nine years ago, I also got a harmonica for Xmas. And I too wanted to learn to play the Harmonica tune for OUATITW. But I lost interest in a couple of weeks.
