1  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Films that make you cry? on: December 20, 2004, 07:58:44 AM
Hi guys,
Been away for a while but just popped back to wish you all greetings for the season and to chuck another topic into the arena.
Hope this is not to soppy for us macho fans of gangsters and gunslingers, but I'm sure if we admit it, there are films out there that really hit that emotional button for us all. Not just the old lump in the throat but films that actually make you produce a tear or two?
Please share them.
Just the three for me:

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Cinema Paradiso
Big Fish

Just came across this old topic and wondered if anybody here has or thought about visiting Sergio's resting place?

Belkin, have a look at an old thread started by Aaronson. General Discussion, Page 12, Do women like the rape scenes? Some very interesting points.

I totally agree with your point. I truly love this film and have watched it many many times in the last seventeen years.
I actually fear this scene and wind it forward every time I watch the film. It is truly horrible and does certainly go on for too long. The scene is necessary as it shows gangsters to be the dispicable, evil people that they generally are but the duration of it spoils for me, an otherwise perfect film.
4  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Martin Scorsese DVD Collection on: August 29, 2004, 11:31:25 AM
Scorsese fans!!

Brilliant news!!

October 25th sees the release of a six disc, five film box set of the following Martin Scorsese films:

Goodfellas (Special Edition)

After Hours

Mean Streets

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore

Who's That Knocking At My Door

All films come with directors commentary and heaps of extras.
Us mooks in the UK don't get Mean Streets though.
5  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Re:Most memorable scene in this film? on: July 17, 2004, 07:24:13 AM
Yeah, a lot of us like that scene. It's moving, dramatic and ends in tragedy.

Another brilliant scene transition is when Noodles is whacked out on dope. The camera slowly moves away from Noodles dazed face to the lamp beside him, and then blurs into the moving street lamp where the charred remains of the gang are lying on the road.
I love the way the rocking movement of the damaged street lamp signifies Noodles hypnotic state in the opium den.

How's about this one:

Independence Day = Huge pile of steaming elephant shite.

The Best Of Youth (Meglio Gioventu, La)
Directed by Marco Tullio Giordana

A 400-minute Italian epic that follows the story of two brothers over a period of 40 years.

This film is getting quite amazing reviews here in the UK.

I would really like to know if anybody here has seen this film?
9  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Re:Favourite Member of the Gang? on: June 27, 2004, 12:59:33 PM

Yeah, I agree  DJimbo. They were quite lovable as scruffy street kids but thoroughly unlikeable as adults.

I really liked young Patsy, probably because of that quite moving cream cake scene.

Once Upon A Time In America

My all time favourite movie!!!
11  General Information / General Discussion / Re:Favourite Hero on: June 25, 2004, 03:05:43 PM

I reckon Clint's going to be the winner here but for me it's got to be Eli Wallach.
12  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re:Favorite Horror Films on: June 25, 2004, 02:53:36 PM

14  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Re:Pesci on the cutting room floor! on: June 20, 2004, 11:57:55 AM
Also, drunks, thugs and the woman in the coffin get cedited higher than Jennifer Connelly. She gets quite an unbelievable fifty-third billing on IMDB! Where's the justice??
I did hear somewhere that there were some Treat Williams scenes on the cutting room floor but not of Joe Pesci
