Also,  Andalucia in Spain.
47  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Re:OUATIA-DVD review on: June 03, 2003, 09:33:52 AM
Cheers for that link, it was indeed interesting. The intermission later on disc two may be a tad messy, but i'm certainly not complaining after the long wait on to DVD. Anyhow how many of us paused the video to go get a drink or take a trip to the toilet??
There was an issue regarding the run time, but that now seems to be the 229 min on all regions. Plus, it's now being released a week earlier.
48  General Information / General Discussion / Re:What is your favorite Film? on: May 29, 2003, 02:13:05 PM
Once Upon A Time In America is an absolute masterpiece!!  FACT!!  Watch all the new fans flock to this board when it gets it's long overdue DVD release.
49  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Re:Marlon vs. De Niro on: May 29, 2003, 07:59:18 AM
Yeah! This one's back in town!!
Once Upon A Time In America gets my vote. Best movie ever!!!, but having said that, Brando's performance in The Godfather was far better than De Niro's in OUATIA.
And that's from a mega De Niro fan.
50  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / Death Of James Hayden? on: May 29, 2003, 06:49:38 AM
I've often wondered what actually happened to the actor James Hayden who played Patsy. IMDB do say that he died of a drug overdose, while performing on Broadway. Does anybody know more about the actor and the events surrounding his death in 1983? It couldn't have been long after finishing OUATIA.
51  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re:R2 double DVD coming out in September on: May 23, 2003, 01:29:45 PM
Are you sure? Is this true? WOW!! I'm checking out more, right now! OUATIA on DVD in June and OUATITW out in September. It's a dream!!!!
52  General Information / General Discussion / Poster Artwork? on: May 21, 2003, 11:19:06 AM
I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but does anybody know the name of the person responsible for the amazing artwork used on Leone's westerns? And why has it not been used for the DVD releases? Although the sketches of Clint are good, I really don't think that they deserve to brace the the covers. Do You?? I fear for the DVD release of OUATITW.

Yep! Go on, the sketches are by the same guy. Ha Ha Ha!
53  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re:Movies you just like to watch over and over? on: May 20, 2003, 05:23:21 PM

I'm with Harmonica on this one.
For some strange reason it has to be Mad Max 2, even though OUATIA and OUATITW are my all time faves. Maybe it's because it was the first X cert I ever saw, or maybe because it's fun and easy to watch or maybe it's the leather - nah! only joking! Dunno, it's just fantasic!!

I don't know if you are aware of Hotdog magazine, but in this months issue it states that De Niro first went into autopilot in The Mission when British producer David Puttnam told him that he was not convinced that he was right for the picture. This really shocked De Niro as no director or producer had ever told him that before. Uncomfortable with the formal language of the script he got through it pulling funny twisted faces and nodding his head to sustitute acting. Sound familiar? But hey, does all that matter. Going by his output in the 70's and early 80's, he's entitled to some lazy performances as he gets older. De Niro could make ten crap movies every year for the next ten years and would still probably be regarded as the best actor in the history of cinema.
55  General Information / General Discussion / Re:Did women like rape scenes ? on: May 19, 2003, 09:35:56 AM
I agree with the last post. Having said that, I still find the rape scene in the car in OUATIA disturbing after probably twelve viewings of the film.
It has been mentioned before, but the magic of Sergio Leone's film is that it shows gangsters as they really are and not the Hollywood glossy stereotype that we generally see.
My wife does not like it, but reckons it's a realistic portrayl of a sad, desperate guy longing for the only thing he cannot have, which is free - Love!
Looks like it's being cut from the soon to be released DVD anyhow.

Robert De Niro of course!!

1900
Godfather Part II
Mean Streets
Taxi Driver
Guilty By Suspicion
Goodfellas
The Deer Hunter
King Of Comedy
Raging Bull
True Confessions
Once Upon A Time In America

Come on!
Try naming me another actor that can match those outstanding performances. Pacino comes close, but Bobby wins easy!!
57  Other/Miscellaneous / Off-Topic Discussion / Re:Gangs of New York on: May 18, 2003, 04:45:27 PM
Sorry, I too thought this film was bloody awful.
It certainly was not a Martin Scorsese movie. This comes from somebody who has loved nearly all of his movies.
I was really looking forward to it's release especially after reading the amazing book by Herbert Asbury. Where the hell did he get that cheesy central storyline from?
Mind you I do think he had a lot of problems with editing and with the studio. An epic that went out of control I think. Shame.
58  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In America / DVD Release on: May 18, 2003, 02:49:01 PM
Yep! Best gangster movie ever!! Without question.
I have loved this film since first viewing it on video in 1986. Imagine my delight when I heard of it's release on DVD in the U.K on June 30th 2003. EVENT!!!
There is a problem though. I did not expect the full uncut 257 min version, (not yet anyway) but I was expecting the 229 min edition. I have looked around quite a bit on the net for info and have discovered that the U.K Region 2 release will be a 220 min version, audio commentary by Richard Schickel, Once Upon Leone (20 min film),Trailer and Photo Gallery. The U.S Region 1 release will be a 229 min version, with commentary, 20 min film and Trailer, but no Photo Gallery. Why?? Does anybody know? I would certainly love to see those extra nine minutes at the expense of the photo gallery wouldn't you?
Also it appears that both editions have the car rape scene cut, as has the much talked about flashback scene towards the end of the film (when Noodles refuses to kill Max).
Still, I cannot wait for it's release, it's about bloody time !
I like the cover too.
