1  Films of Sergio Leone / Other Films / Re: La resa dei conti aka The Big Gundown (1966) on: May 27, 2012, 11:19:59 PM
I noticed something interesting while watching Big Gun Down for wbout the 60th time.
In the part where Cuchillo is being chased through the cane field by riders on horseback,
the music score uses animal sounds, including what sounds like monkeys or apes.
The sequence is a damned close match for the cornfield chase in Planet of the Apes.
The music on POTA also uses monkey sounds, and the way the scene is shot even matches some of the camera angles from TBGD.
Do you think the POTA scene may have been inspired by TBGD ?

3  Films of Sergio Leone / Other Films / Re: La resa dei conti aka The Big Gundown (1966) on: July 09, 2011, 04:53:44 PM
I just watched The Big Gundown for the first time and found it to be absolutely fantastic !
The DVD  was the Franco Cleef restored version , and the print was nearly flawless.
The acting of the main characters is first rate and Lee Van Cleef is outstanding as the absolutely bad ass yet painfully conflicted Corbett.
There are hiccups in the pacing of the film but I found it to be every bit as entertaining as the Dollars movies.

My favite line is when Corbett says to Cucillo ; " You must have come out of your mother running." Grin

Great flik !

Here's a link to the DVD.

11  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: Jack Elam is DUBBED! on: May 21, 2011, 05:55:20 PM
Here is a link to a youtube video of Nevil Brand in the movie Killdozer.
Nevil can be heard at the 3:23 mark talking to Clint Walker.
His voice is identical to the OUATITW Jack Elam overdub.

What do you think mi amigos ?
12  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re: Jack Elam is DUBBED! on: May 21, 2011, 04:30:27 AM
Jacks voice sounds like his voice was dubbed by Nevil Brand.
It's like when they were looking for the actors to re-dub, the technition couldn't find Jacks name and said; "we need that really ugly actor that plays all the heavys" and wound up with Nevil.
13  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: Songs..., Stuff and my first post ;-) on: May 13, 2011, 07:56:59 PM
I always thought the chant in the song sounded like they were saying,( Go, Go, Go ,Manco !)
It sounds like the name Manco is  used as a chant in several different tracks on the soundtrack.
I figured it might be a nod to FaFDM.
Of couse the chant could also be heared as (Go Joe, Go Manco !) In which case it would reference FFoD as well.
I ain't sayin' thats what they're singin', but thats what it sounds like they're singin'. Wink
14  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re: What is the most priceless GBU quote/line from the movie? on: May 13, 2011, 07:36:04 PM
All have been excellent.  Remember these too???

(Tuco to Blondie after he's caught him in the hotel) "Tie that noose tight! It's got to hold the weight of a pig!"

Or just Tuco's full character name...Tuco Benedicto Pacífico Juan María Ramírez (and I thought Rose Dewitt Bukater was tough to remember).

and the whole line about the string of crimes Tuco has been found guilty of prior to hanging...
"Wanted in fifteen counties, standing before us, ah, sitting before us, Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez, has been found guilty by the District Circuit Court of the following crimes: murder, assaulting a Justice of the Peace, raping a virgin of the white race, statutory rape of a minor of the black race, derailing a train in order to rob the passengers, ... robbery, highway robbery, robbing an unknown number of post offices, breaking out of a ..., counterfeiting and passing counterfeit money, and the accused... promoting prostitution ...high places of authority... illegal postal pick up... intention of selling black fugitive slaves... the sheriff in Sonora... hired himself out as guide on a wagon train, after receiving his payment in advance, he deserted the wagon train in the hunting grounds of the Sioux Indians... misrepresenting himself as a Mexican general in order to receive a salary and living allowance from the Union Army..." Cheesy

Yeah, Tuco's my hero.
Here's the complete list.
First Hangman: "...wanted in fourteen counties of this state, the condemned is found guilty of crimes of murder, armed robbery of citizens, state banks and post offices; the theft of sacred objects, arson in a state prison, perjury, bigamy, deserting his wife and children, inciting prostitution, kidnapping, extortion, receiving stolen goods, selling stolen goods, passing counterfeit money and contrary to the laws of this state the condemned is guilty of using marked cards and loaded dice. Therefore, according to the powers vested in us, we sentence the accused before us, Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez and any other aliases he might have, to hang by the neck until dead... may god have mercy on his soul... proceed."

Second Hangman: "...wanted in fifteen counties of this state, the condemned standing before us... sitting before us... Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez has been found guilty by the third district circuit court of the following crimes: Murder, assaulting a justice of the peace, raping a virgin of the white race, statuatory rape of a minor of the black race... derailing a train in order to rob the passengers, bank robbery, highway robbery, robbing an unknown number of Post  Offices, breaking out of the state prison, using marked cards and loaded dice, promoting prostitution, blackmail, intention of selling fugitive slaves, and counterfeiting. Crimes against  places of high authority include burning down the courthouse and sheriff's office in Sonora. The accused is also guilty of cattle rustling, horse thievery, supplying Indians with firearms... misrepresenting himself as a Mexican General, unlawfully drawing salarly and living allowances from the Union Army. For all these crimes the accused has made a full and spontaneous confession. Therefore we condemn him to be hung by the neck until dead... may the lord have mercy on his soul... proceed."
