1  General Information / Sergio Leone News / Re: OUATITW playing in San Francisco!!! on: November 15, 2005, 09:58:28 AM
Saw it last night. Seemed like the same print from the DVD. I was hoping that maybe a few extra scenes would be included. No such luck. The sound was good although the color was somewhat muted and lacked luster. I shouldn't complain. It's not everyday you get to see OUATITW on the big screen.

I think it's a daily poll so it might not be there after today. Not really a "foreign film" but, eh

Andrew Hyatt. I was the second owner of this website and obtained it from Andrew when he didn't want to run it anymore (the exact circumstances as to how this happened I've forgotten... it was some 6 or 7 years ago). At some point two or three years ago I didn't have the time to manage this site anymore and gave it to the current owner.
7  Films of Sergio Leone / The Good, The Bad and The Ugly / Re:GBU shootout theme in Kill Bill-2 trailer on: April 21, 2004, 01:05:03 AM
I saw the film last night. LOTS of Sergio/Morricone music in it. It's an okay film. Better than Vol. 1 IMO but still nowhere near the level of Pulp Fiction (what is) but still better than Jackie Brown.

9  General Information / General Discussion / Re:Fistful of Dynamite sampled in hip hop song on: April 21, 2004, 01:02:16 AM
Nevermind.  You can't hear the sample on the clip provided by Amazon. Try downloading the song off Kazaa if you can.

I was listening to a song called Flashflood from a group called Aesop Rock. You can hear a sample of it at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005O4UY/qid=1082530722/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/103-1278660-3776665

I guess you have to cut and paste the whole URL or just do a search on cdnow.com for Aesop ROck and it's on the album Labor Days.
11  General Information / General Discussion / Re:my first meeting with a leone film on: November 23, 2003, 04:47:32 PM
Around 1994 or 1995 and I into the whole Tarantino film geek thing and Tarantino would speak foundly of RIo Bravo so one day I caught a film that I thought might be in (I had no idea what it was or who starred in it). It was GBU and ever since then I"ve been a fan.

Oddly, the first time I saw OUATITW it was in pan-n-scan and I hated it. Having loved all of Leone's film I gave it a second try and enjoyed it a little more. Than someone gave me a copy of it from the laserdisc and it instantly became my favorite film.
12  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Region 1 vs. Region 2 DVD ???? on: November 23, 2003, 04:44:46 PM
Are they the same version exactly? I know the minutes are different but I think that's on account of the speed of which they're shown. PAL plays at 25 frames per second so they so each second you see on PAL DVD is 1 and 1/24 of a second of film. Times that by 165 and that accounts for the loss of a few minutes.
13  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re:U.S. DVD on: November 23, 2003, 04:40:09 PM
I was dissapointed that they didn't have an extended version. I have a German copy sitting somewhere and it's got all these 10 second clips that were cut from the 165 minute version that just add SO much to the quality of the film. Just in the beginning you have extra shots of the water hitting Woody Strode's hat, some extra seconds of the train at the beginning before revealing Bronson behind it, and later on extra shots of Morton on the train.

The quality of the DVD is top notch. For features and quality I give it 10/10.
14  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Re:Jason Robards on: November 23, 2003, 04:36:25 PM
I thought his casting was inspired. He certainly added an aspect to the film that was more real. I've been a fan of his since seeing this film. He was incredible in Magnolia as well and was certainly an actor that should have been featured more in the movies he was in.
15  Films of Sergio Leone / Once Upon A Time In The West / Aspect ratio of USA DVD on: October 26, 2003, 04:26:53 PM
So is the ratio going to be 1.77:1 or 2.35:1?

Amazon has been saying 1.77:1 but I have a hard time believing they'd put that kind of effort into a DVD that's pan-n-scan.
